8 Top Newspapers Endorse Obama Today
Source: Editor&Publisher

NEW YORK Barack Obama picked up at least eight newspaper endorsements this weekend, including four in swing states Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Ohio and Missouri. John McCain, as far as we know, gained none.

The Wisconsin State Journal had backed Bush in 2004. The St. Louis (Post-Dispatch) called his opponent, John McCain, "the incredible shrinking man" who had made a horrific pick for his running mate.

Backing Obama: In Ohio, The Blade in Toledo and the Dayton Daily News; the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette; St. Louis Post-Dispatch; The Tennessean of Nashville; the Wisconsin State Journal; and in California the Fresno Bee and The Sun of San Bernardino....

Here are excerpts from some of the papers.

POST-DISPATCH:

Over the past nine months, Mr. Obama, the junior senator from Illinois, has emerged as the only truly transformative candidate in the race. In the crucible that is a presidential campaign, his intellect, his temperament and equanimity under pressure consistently have been impressive. He has surrounded himself with smart, capable advisers who have helped him refine thorough, nuanced policy positions. In a word, Mr. Obama has been presidential.

Meanwhile, Mr. McCain, the senior senator from Arizona, became the incredible shrinking man. He shrank from his principled stands in favor of a humane immigration policy. He shrank from his universal condemnation of torture and his condemnation of the politics of smear. He even shrank from his own campaign slogan, "Country First," by selecting the least qualified running mate since the Swedenborgian shipbuilder Arthur Sewall ran as William Jennings Bryan's No. 2 in 1896....

every time I see my state flag in the background behind them. It's probably about the equivilant of having neighbors that have been on Jerry Springer. :banghead:

4. Nashville has a large dem base
Not like West Tennessee or East Tennessee(where I live). We also have a great dem Gov(Bredesen) who is out there in different states campaigning for Obama/Biden. Tennessee has major flaws in politics, but at least we have a Gov. with intelligence. You really don't even here the repugs around here say anything bad about him. Many people think "Music City" and think that it is all a lot of country repugs. This is way off base. There is a huge amount of musicians that represent rock, blues, etc. in Nashville that are Dem's. This infux of most major recordings of all types of music has changed the landscape. Middle Tennessee is now considered pretty liberal. Now, if this would just spread east and west. :toast:

11. I expect the NY Times and Washington Post to follow suit
It would be suicide for a newspaper to endorse the bad policies of Republicans at this point, including McSame's.

12. Which ones have endorsed McLame?
I wonder if the Cleveland Plain Dealer will waffle again in this election. Didn't they choose not to endorse anyone in 2004 because they were too chickenshit to say they couldn't possibly back Bush again?
