McCain Campaign Fires Virginia GOP Figure Over Racially Offensive Column

posted 2:51 pm Sat October 11, 2008

DANVILLE, Va. - Republican presidential candidate John McCain's campaign has ousted a prominent Virginia GOP figure after he wrote a racially offensive newspaper column mocking a potential Obama administration. A McCain spokeswoman said Bobby May was dropped this week from his job as McCain's Buchanan County campaign chairman.

May wrote in his column, "The (clarified) platform of Barack Hussein Obama," that if the Democratic senator was elected he would hire rapper Ludacris to paint the White House black and change the national anthem to the "Black National Anthem."

The column originally appeared in The Voice, a local newspaper. May has worked on dozens of state Republican campaigns, including those of former gubernatorial candidate and Attorney General Jerry Kilgore, Lt. Gov. Bill Bolling and U.S. Rep. Virgil Goode.

2. I used to live in Russell Co, VA bordering Buchanan...
I knew a black man from Lebanon who said that when he died he wanted to be buried in Buchanan County, VA because that's the last place the devil would come looking for a black man.

I think the AA population in Buchanan County is zero. Pretty sure.

3. Bigots Can Run But Can't Hide
Gotcha - now say cheese...

We know McCain doesn't know how to use a computer but thanks to technology the world can see his campaign of hate and division.

8. Looks like McCain's new strategy.
Order direct racist attacks by his outlying supporters, people that are easily sacrificed. Then he fires them in a huff, and wins points for being against racism. Bring out the fear and get the hero points, it's a win-win.

10. Bingo!
These thugs do the dirty work, then McNasty is shocked, just shocked, and benches them. Until next time, of course. What a joke.

11. This is a campaign that is desperately flailing...
And fighting to get control of itself. But it won't, because to do that, it would have to get control of the repuke rank and file. It can't. Starting with Helen Chenoweth's outreach to the farthest fringes of the right, back in the early 90's, this was inevitable. She reached out to every baying-at-the-moon, rabbit-running mad dog of the right, the militias, the white supremacists, the haters and the real weirdos and the misfits.

And now, they are reaping the benefits of their scabrous bargain. May they choke on it.

we have a family reunion outside of danville every year. but, alot of northerner's have moved down to va and i think they are making va purple if not blue. doesn't va have a dem governor. things will probably get real ugly and real racial down there but, it won't help mccain win.

This is an old news story from Thursday. That it's being reported again days later is beyond my understanding.
