Palin uses her elected office to promote religious causes, at times with public money

1 2 next WASILLA, Alaska (AP) _ The camera closes in on Sarah Palin speaking to young missionaries, vowing from the pulpit to do her part to implement God's will from the governor's office.

What she didn't tell worshippers gathered at the Wasilla Assembly of God church in her hometown was that her appearance that day came courtesy of Alaskan taxpayers, who picked up the $639.50 tab for her airplane tickets and per diem fees.

An Associated Press review of the Republican vice presidential candidate's record as mayor and governor reveals her use of elected office to promote religious causes, sometimes at taxpayer expense and in ways that blur the line between church and state.

Since she took state office in late 2006, the governor and her family have spent more than $13,000 in taxpayer funds to attend at least 10 religious events and meetings with Christian pastors, including Franklin Graham, the son of evangelical preacher Billy Graham, records show.

there'll be a day of reckoning for her in Juneau, too. She'll one day rue the day she met John McCain.

25. I'm not so sure about that
with over $3k going into their pockets in oil tax revenues, I'm more inclined to think that they would do whatever it takes to keep her in office. They're basically being paid very well to live there.

31. The permanent fund has been paid yearly to Alaskans for over 30 years. . .
my brother received over $1000 a year when he moved there in the 1977. Payments are so high today only because the price of oil has risen, and risen dramatically while Palin was in office. She's only the fortuitous recipient of the good fortune to be in office when the amount has risen for factors totally unrelated to her or her administration. And when she's gone, the money will continue to flow so long as the oil flows.

You may learn more about this by Googling "Alaska Permanent Fund."

9. Wow, you're right about that.
She was doing fine as a big fish in a little pond. Now she's a minnow in the ocean. And there's no going back. She's done.

Upside: more time to devote to her family, which desperately needs it.

Former Alabama governor who was impeached for exactly this.

It amazes me that people live in this kind of a world where blatant violations of the law are just fine because they are doing gawd's work.

of how unworldly and naive she is. She really comes across as clueless, as if she arrived here in a time machine from an era when people blatantly got away with that kind crap.

Going back to Alaska will probably be tough, as I don't think they're going to want her back. I think she's going to regret not telling McCain, "Thanks, but no thanks."

as an Alaskan politician, "When John McCain asked me to be his running mate, I said thanks but no thanks. I put Alaska first!" That could have postponed her inevitable political demise for a little longer.

33. According to Republicans, Cain was exonerated
Sure, he was reprimanded, but he didn't have to serve any jail time. And Cain explained the circumstances: "Hey, Abel was in my face. He knows he deserved what he got." Attorneys for the Cain campaign point out that technically, murder was not a crime at that time, since no laws had been written yet. The Ten Commandments didn't come until the next book in the Very Holy Bible.

Wait, aren't we supposed to talk about McCain on this site? Quit confusing me.

That's John 13:34, which is part of the Last Supper story...he said it after he washed everyone's feet.

Sarah Palin seems to me like the kind of Christian whose Bible hasn't ever been opened.

Wasn't that the Catch-22 test they used? If they threw you in the river and you drowned, you weren't a witch. If you didn't drown, they burned you at the stake.

Of course, the real witches would turn you into a newt if you ever tried to burn them.

This gift just keeps on giving.

Of course the spinners will spin this, and her fundamentalist/eschatologist 'base'(a finer use of the word would be hard to fathom) will think it grand that she has breached the Constitutional clause against State sponsored religion.

Theocracy for all!

Thank god I'm an atheist.

which suits me just fine, but it does seem striking nonetheless.

please take the time to check out the background of every individual. In my neck of the woods (us govt) every position possible is being filled by people just like Palin.

Google everyone on your ballot, to include members of the Water Commission, and make sure you are voting for someone recommended by the dem party.

54. Right, and Just it is, that she do so, for ...
She is appointed by God to do His work:

"Let every person be subordinate to the higher authorities, for there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been established by God. Therefore, whoever resists authority opposes what God has appointed, and those who oppose it will bring judgment upon themselves."
(God: Romans 1-2)

But it does confuse me because God also writes in His Book that:

"Women may not exercise authority over men. And I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man"
(God: 1 Tim 2:12)

Lordy, but it is hard to follow the Word of The Lord!

But she is trying, she is trying.

Just too bad she is going to Hell for stepping out of her God Ordained place.

"I will greatly multiply your sorrow and your conception; in pain you shall bring forth children; your desire shall be for your husband, and he shall rule over you"
(God: Genesis 3:16)

Praise The Lord.
