McCain Camp Fails to Block "Troopergate" Probe

"No matter what the conclusion of the "Troopergate" investigation into Sarah Palin's abuses of power as governor of Alaska, the fact that the report will be released today marks a major victory for those Republicans and Democrats who remained committed to ethics in government."

"Here's the story of how Alaskan Republican legislators defended the probe against the assault by GOP operatives from Washington."

2. Alaska has been the target of a lot of scornful remarks...
...here on DU lately - quite justifiably for obvious reasons - but where credit is due, credit needs to be given.

5. Then the country will demand that it be released..
Perhaps it may not be released legally...but these things have a way of leaking out...

I recall something about the "Pentagon Papers " and other secret reports that somehow got out..........

in any case, this situation is not at all certain to make alaska politics look better. i'll give the credit *after* it's earned. right now, that's looking very uncertain.

9. Which is really unfortunate.
I lived there for a couple years and had a great time. Most people in Alaska don't hate Republicans or Democrats - what they do hate, more than ANYTHING, is people from the lower-48 coming up and screwing with their business. From what I hear, NO ONE was too appreciative of the McCain campaign's interference in this matter - even hardcore republicans.

11. that was my general take of AK too. I lived there for a few years
and ANYTHING that came from or appeared to come from the lower 48 was rejected. It was almost like, if the lower 48 support something AK would go 180 degrees the opposite just on principle so by trying to bury the investigation, the McCain campaign just made them more determined to continue the investigation. You gotta love it!

10. I get the feeling that the people..
of Alaska are not taking kindly to the McCain Campaign taking over their State Government. I can't understand why the firing of the Commissioner, or the attempt to fire the brother-in-law is worthy of such determination to cover it up. If they hadn't raised such a big stink, it wouldn't smell so bad.

the news of the financial meltdown and the stock market. The media may act as if nothing has happened and Sara will not have to respond to any questions...of course.....she doesn't want to be "annoyed" by questions..

7. Why would they hold the report if it cleared her? By not releasing, they are
telling us she is a shitstain. All that remains is the detail.
