More Bogus Obama Donors Surface
Source: CBS News ¨Investigative Producer Laura Strickler

CBS News has learned that two donors to the Obama campaign that gave a total of $7,722 appear to have made their contributions under fake names that look like they were written by a mouse running across a keyboard: Dahsudhu Hdusahfd of Df, Hawaii with the following employer CZXVC/ZXVZXV and Uadhshgu Hduadh listed as living in Dhff, Florida listed their employer as DASADA/SAFASF. ...

... Despite numerous refunds from the Obama campaign, Hdusahfd still has a record of giving a total of $7500 to Obama which is well over the legal limit for the primary and general election of $4600. Hduadh gave $14,200 but the Obama campaign returned all but $222.00.

The Obama campaign says “out of an abundance of caution” all of these donations are in the process of being returned.

Obama spokesperson Bill Burton sent CBS News the following email statement, “We constantly review our donors for any issues and while no organization is completely protected from internet fraud, we will continue to review our fundraising procedures to ensure that we are taking every available step to root-out improper contributions.” Burton pointed to Harry Sargeant, one of McCain’s donors who is now the subject of a Congressional investigation. McCain returned $50,000 to Sargeant in early August. ...

4. So uh, hmmm.. oh ok - this is bullshit.

You have to provide a credit card for online donations. I'm just guessing that Dahsudhu Hdusahfd is not the actual name on the card, but that is only a guess.

What a load.

p.s. it would be fraud as well.

11. Probably pre-paid
It is easy to buy pre-paid cards and load up several thousand at a time with no identification. They use the same name every time but probably different card numbers so it was harder to detect for the campaign.

19. True
You can trace the card. Find out where and what date it was purchased and go from there. Not saying it is untraceable. Just saying you can get a card and make a fake name.
If anyone thinks Obama or his campaign was trying to do anything shady. A black man and donations that the white man wouldn't check with a fine-tooth comb. Don't think so.

6. Why can't they trace the real owner via credit card used????????
This feels like a Republican trick - planted earlier to shame the candidate later.

7. The credit cards shouldn't go through with names so horrifically wrong
I've written a few payment systems, and some systems do allow for MINOR discrepancies, but nothing like asjsdlkjaslkjdalksdasd

...we'd have all these contribs from the Etaoin Shrdlu family.

That would've been easier to spot. A trained typesetter would have caught that in a hot (so to speak) second

13. It's called politics. There are always gonna be issues like this. The best policy is to try to
keep them to a minimum.

I am so happy that CBS is digging into stuff like this against Obama instead of embarrasing McAnus and Palin with nationally-televised video of the Alaska Independence Party praising her to the high heavens, or of her Witch doctor Minister protecting her from witchcraft. I'm sure that kind of stuff wouldn't generate any viewership. Right?

appears who ever is doing it is persistent asnd doesn't care aboutthe cash. I then send out a nice note saying where his/her/their money went.

17. Bogus donations of this kind serve two purposes...
...one, you can have an organization, like, say, the GOP, say that you are getting donations from foreigners and terrorists under fake names, and two, not having a real name/employer/address, the campaign is unable to return the donation. End result, command some news cycles with bullshit charges for just a couple thousand dollars. Who says Republicans don't understand solid investments?

18. saw this is an article today..
Perhaps it is true that the surest sign that the McCain campaign is guilty of something is if it accuses the Obama camp of the same deed.

Why is this a story if the Obama Campaign already gave back all but 220.00? As far as writing like a mouse over a keyboard you should see my signature!

22. This is repigs in action....
If I was going to give myself donations, I would have enough brains to at least use a legit name and a realistic location, same goes for the employer. I would at least make sound legit.

"Dahsudhu Hdusahfd of Df, Hawai" "Uadhshgu Hduadh" and "employer CZXVC/ZXVZXV"? It is either A) serious computer malfunction through the internet tubes and their payment system or B) some of McFucked's campaign funds issues is because of this scheme.
