Jury hears audio of Stevens fretting about inquiry
Source: Associated Press

By TOM HAYS and JESSE J. HOLLAND

WASHINGTON (AP) -- ... Stevens, unaware Allen already was cooperating with investigators, advises him, "We ought to really lay low right now.'' He also tells him to cut down on drinking, watch his health and await the outcome of the probe into more than $250,000 in renovations on the senator's cabin and other gifts provided by Allen's oil pipeline company, VECO Corp ..

... Stevens repeatedly -- and sometimes profanely -- asserts his innocence on tape. But he also tells his old friend he's worried about the appearance of wrongdoing and even warns that they might be under surveillance.

"I think they're probably listening to this conversation right now,'' Stevens says in the recording.

"We might have to pay a fine and spend a little time in jail,'' he continues ...

6. They have him dead to rights because they have hours and hours of him on tape.
For several years before anyone was aware of it Allen was cooperating with the Feds and allowed his phone and person to be wired..Stevens can not get away from his own words...

8. Sen. Stevens on tape: "might serve time in jail"
Source: Reuters

By Randall Mikkelsen

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Sen. Ted Stevens told an oil-executive friend, in recordings played on Monday at the Alaska Republican's corruption trial, they both risked going to jail -- but he didn't think it would come to that.

"These guys can't hurt really us. They're not going to shoot us. It's not Iraq. What the hell?," Stevens told Bill Allen, founder of the former VECO Corp. oil-services firm based in Alaska.

Stevens is charged with lying on Senate disclosure forms from 2001 to 2006 to conceal more than $250,000 in renovations to his property and other gifts provided by VECO.

"The worst that can happen to us is we run up a bunch of legal fees, and might lose and we might have to pay a fine, might have to serve a little time in jail. I hope to Christ it never gets to that, and I don't think it will," Stevens said.

9. That's a lie!
He's innocent. He said so. And he and his friend Sarah Palin would NEVER lie.

Damn Democrats. Constantly making up lies to make good, honest Republicans look bad.

(OK, where did I leave my meds. I think it's time for another dose.)
