Frank: Republicans "winced" When McCain Was Mentioned In Meeting
Source: CBS The Politico

Rep. Barney Frank (D-Mass.) said that "nobody mentioned McCain" during the several-hour-long meeting on the $700 billion market rescue plan, other than Frank and that his Republican colleagues "winced" when he did.

"Hes been irrelevant to the process. He remains to be," said Frank. "I was afraid that his dropping in here, like Andy Kaufmans Mighty Mouse'here I am to save the day'I thought that would slow things down. I didnt see any sign of our Republican colleagues paying any attention to him whatsoever."

Franks went on. "Nobody mentioned him. The mans irrelevant to the whole process. No Republican mentioned his name. Im the only one who raised his name. They winced when I did," he said. ...

1. Let's see them try to spin that!
I heard that Obama presented his required aspects for any deal. McCain apparently was lost in space.

7. Barney Frank doesn't seem to bite his tongue
the rest of the article:

"I dont think anyone takes that seriously," said Frank of McCain's suggestion that Friday's debate be delayed. "Sen. McCain trying to use the necessity for his presence to reach a deal that weve already reached as a reason to duck the debate is unworthy of him. There is absolutely no reason not to go to the debate."

Frank was equally cool about today's meeting with the White House. "The White House isnt show and tell. Were going to the White House because the president asked us to go. Nobody thinks at this point that anything usefuls going to happen. But we now have to get things drafted and worked on. The White House meeting is just an interruption in our schedule," he said.

Though he said McCain's presence would be unhelpful, he did say, getting a dig in at McCain's running mate, that there "were times when I was ready to suggest that, when we got to some of the more complicated issues about how do you price these sophisticated instruments, that we ask him to make Sarah Palin available to give us her expertise."

He's not my congressman 'cause I live on the wrong side of the city line, but here in MA we hear and see a lot of him. He talks like this all the time, and it's a big reason why he is well-loved.

35. I like Barney Frank, too, but this reference of his was a bit misleading
It wasn't "Andy Kaufman's" Mighty Mouse. I distinctly remember, from my childhood, that Mighty Mouse was singing "Here I come to save the day" in operatic style while Kaufman himself was still a child. All Kaufman did was perform a sketch in which he lip-synched to a recording from the show.

Barney Frank was born several years before Kaufman or me. Frank was already 15 years old when Mighty Mouse cartoons began running on television, so I guess he wasn't really aware of the original and knew only Kaufman's take-off.

OK, cartoon analysis is over, you may now return to the total collapse of your financial system.

Edited on Thu Sep-25-08 10:27 PM by TWriterD
That will make the FUX newsbunnies apoplectic. Even Dodd had a good one about this stunt being nothing but an attempt to rescue McCain's campaign.

But I am sick of the "hero" bullshit, along with the "my friend" crap. This is WAR.

What was the rush?

(If just about everything he stands for didn't get my goat, I'd feel sorry for the guy. This is humiliating. He is pathetic.)

47. I don't know what's better...
This, Shelby's stabbing McCain in the back by sharing the fact that the Irrelevant McCain hadn't called him ONE single time during this crisis, his getting caught on camera in a lie about going back to DC right this very minute, Palin's repeated "Look what a total idiot I am!" displays... there's just too much to choose from!

The best thing this week has to be our Dems getting an equity stake in that bailout package. IMO that is beyond the beyond. At the start of this week I don't think anyone had mentioned it save Kucinich and maybe Frank... and pundits were saying there was no way it'd ever happen... and now we have Madame Speaker insisting on it... fan-frickin-tastic.
