McCain Stops at Senate en Route to White House
Source: Washington Post

Sen. John McCain returned to Washington on Thursday after declaring that he has suspended his campaign, but he appeared largely detached from the flurry of negotiations on a $700 billion economic rescue package that appeared to be headed to a successful conclusion.

McCain's "Straight Talk Air" landed at National Airport just after noon, and McCain's motorcade sped toward the Senate. But by then, senior Democrats and Republicans were already announcing that a deal in principle had been reached.

........

But for most of the afternoon, McCain has not visibly been part of the action on the issue. He was not present when House and Senate negotiators emerged from a two-hour meeting to declare success. That announcement was made by Sen. Christopher J. Dodd (D-Conn.), chairman of the Senate Banking Committee, Sen. Robert F. Bennett (Utah) and Frank.

McCain, by contrast, spent some time in his office with several Republican colleagues, briefly stopped at Boehner's office, then left for lunch at the Capitol's Mansfield Room before returning to his office in the Russell Senate Office Building.

4. Does he still remember where it is? He is so seldom there, and has been known to nod off.

10. The Feak Show cometh and leaveth.
Really, he should have a hot dog vendor follow him around. Cotton candy machine...clowns with animal shape balloons...the works. The McCain campaign is such a carnival freak show now. If he were my party's candidate, my election day write-in would be stamped with a sell-by date.

11. Letterman was pissed at being blown off by McSame last night
Edited on Thu Sep-25-08 08:14 PM by LastLiberal in PalmS
He spent the first half of the show on the topic "You don't suspend a campaign!" (which he must have said 20 times) and "This doesn't pass the smell test." The Top 10 List was the "Top 10 Questions People Are Asking the John McCain Campaign." Then he brought out KO to discuss why would McCain suspend a campaign, and WTF does that mean, and how it "didn't pass the smell test."

In the middle of KO's spot Letterman said that McSame had told him hours before that he had to cancel because he was "immediately" rushing back to Washington to deal with the problem. Then he cut to a live feed from the CBS News set, where McS was getting powder on his face before being interviewed by Katie Couric. (Letterman tapes his show at about 5 p.m.) When the interview started, Letterman said the first question should be, "Why aren't you in Washington like you told Letterman?"

I imagine Dave won't let the topic drop tonight.
