Iraq ambush toll climbs to 35: mayor

BAQUBA, Iraq (AFP) — The death toll from an ambush against Iraqi police in the restive province of Diyala has risen to 35, a local mayor told AFP on Thursday.

Gunmen struck on Wednesday in the village of Al-Dulaimat near the town of Khan Bani Saad north of Baghdad, in one of the worst attacks against police in recent times.

Gunmen shot dead 12 policemen and eight anti-Qaeda fighters, a security official said on Wednesday.

But the town mayor Naif Abdullah said another 15 wounded policemen who were sent to a hospital in Baghdad were dead on arrival.

1. Sure is a good thing that the violence is down in Iraq.
I'm pretty sure that anyone can now go shopping in the markets without any concern at all... just like Indiana.

2. To play devils advocate.
Im pretty sure violence like this was going on well before the US entered this occupation.

Just as violence continues to occur in Sudan. Afganifstan. North Korea. China. Somalia. Cambodia. Colombia.

Death on a massive scale is not a novel idea. It is not a new 'thing'

3. "Entered this occupation" ?
We invaded.

Yes, there was massive death in Iraq before we invaded. It was called the Iran/Iraq War. How noble and pure we were for setting off the same scale of violence, the Tirgris literally running red with blood - based on lies and violations of international law and common humanity.

4. I guess my point is...
I get sick of some 'self proclaimed' liberals, when they get misty eyed over 35 dead...but only when it becomes a news story.

Fuck genocide. Fuck N. Korea. Fuck Somalia.

'They' are not in the news today. I don't know enough about 'them' - They are not Iraq. I can not use them as a tool to win an election.

Come on people. Wake up. Death. Genocide. It is all happing. RIGHT NOW. Not just in Iraq. Not just 35 dead.

When was the last time Obama or Pelosi or Reid spoke of Darfur. When was the last time they spoke of N. Korea's PEOPLE.

5. Granted. I want and end to this Occupation as much, IF NOT MORE than the next person
I just feel a bit dismayed. A bit disheartened.

I see a future where American troops are no longer in Iraq. A future where Sudan is still in utter turmoil. A future where the people of Tibet are still repressed.

I FEAR the American 'Liberals' will be all to satisfied with a withdrawal from Iraq. Do you understand me Hissy?

6. Saddam held that country together...
The last time there was an uprising was right after the first Gulf War and Papa Bush egged on the insurgents in the south and just sat by as Saddam slaughted 100,000 people...

7. You would be very very wrong.

Saddam was an evil bastard dictator. But, like most dictators, he ran a very tight ship. He would hunt down any criminal like this and kill them... and their families, friends, tribal members, etc. So, while there was sectarian disagreements and long standing tribal hatreds, it stayed under the surface of the society. Not only that, but Saddam also cracked down on the ability of the various religious leaders to stir the pot. His society was very non-sectarian and progressive (most of his people were trained as engineers and so forth, women were included in the work force and encouraged to get as much education as they wished).

Interesting thing about your list. China? Really? Other than Tibet? And even Tibet isn't all that violent, something about the religious philosophies of those who want to be free of Chinese rule. Non-violence and all that. North Korea? Nope, another one of those pesky dictatorships. Not much violence there either.
