NJ town blanketed with racist anti-Obama fliers
Source: Philly.com

TRENTON, N.J. - Residents in one New Jersey town are disturbed after receiving fliers over the weekend that question Barack Obama's candidacy on racial grounds.

Roxbury resident Elizabeth Corsetto says a flier was left in her driveway asking, "Do You Want A Black President?" and showing a doctored photo of Obama with a long beard and turban.

Roxbury Police Chief Mark Noll says the fliers were left on various streets in the northwestern New Jersey township by a white supremacist group called the League of American Patriots.

Noll says the incident is being investigated as littering, which carries a potential $500 fine, and not as a hate crime, because the group did not target certain homes.

E-mail and phone messages to the group were not immediately returned Tuesday.

If the offending flyer didn't use the 'n' word, I doubt their reaction to HRC would have been to use the 'c' word. Besides, the point of this flyering is that they want to get people scared, and quite frankly, I just don't think they'd either be as scared of, or make a compelling case for people to be as scared of, a white woman in the same, blatant way.

8. These are typical...
Of an inbred subset of people who live in the rural weatern part of the state, from north to south. Sussex, Warren and Hunterdon counties especially have more than their share of these knuckleheads.

If I didn't know better, I would say that these are the same folks who have been active around here for a number of years, under different names, always with thinly-veiled racism at their core. They are the activist core of support for Assemblyman Michael Doherty, a right-wing dolt we cannot get rid of around here, because they always mobilize the same 5-7000 voters who vote and put him over the top.

29. I think with the really radical assembly men it is because there are
too many people voting their party affiliation. I'm in Morris and Carrol (who told a 12 year old that it would be better she die than have stem sell research because it kills a fetus) continues to be elected.

This town is actually in the westernmost part of Morris.

28. The fliers came from out of town - from a town 54 minutes away!
I am very familiar with Roxbury, having driven many a carpool there years ago.

The man who distributed these is from Butler, where I have never been, though I bet he is an anomaly there. This is a surban town - not an isolated little town - and its population is diverse, though mostly white.

13. They don't require dues for membership...
The League currently does not require dues for membership. However, we greatly appreciate contributions from members and supporters to facilitate our cause and organizational goals as outlined in the chairman's innagural speech and the "Issues" section of this website. Those interested in membership must provide the following information to the chairman: Name, email address, phone number along with county and state of residence; nom de plume last names are acceptable.
Membership is restricted to adult heterosexual men and women who are entirely of European Christian ancestry. At this time we are limiting enrollment to patriots in the northeast corridor between Central Pennsylvania and New England. Those who join us are expected to be law-abiding members of their respective communities. We reserve the right to discontinue our association with persons deemed unsuitable. League members who wish to make statements to a media outlet must obtain the chairman's approval in advance.

So who wants to be a member of The Asshole Club?

Check this out:

"Membership is restricted to adult heterosexual men and women who are entirely of European Christian ancestry."

Christianity is a religious CHOICE, not "ancestry"! What a pack of stupid fucks.

And what a shame, they're alienating gay bigots who might be sympathetic to their cause. :sarcasm:

30. Read the local paper's article - the people putting these out aren't from the town
Edited on Wed Sep-24-08 12:31 PM by karynnj
They are members of a white Supremest group that has very few (but too many) members. This has nothing to do with the town, which appears horrified by it.

27. These did NOT come from people in Roxbury
Here is the local article - http://www.dailyrecord.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080924/COMMUNITIES06/809240371/1203

I know the town of Roxbury well as it has a very large, very influence Reform synagogue there which we attended years ago. This is my county, which though Republican is not right wing or racist. Read the reaction in the link,

"Etzion Neuer, director of the New Jersey office of the Anti-Defamation League, said his group has been watching Carmichael's organization for months. Two weeks ago, he said a Roxbury resident sent him a copy of a flier the group left on a driveway about illegal immigration. He said some white supremacist groups have latched onto the issue of illegal immigration because of its popularity.

"The ADL has been concerned about the rise of extremist organizations using the immigration issue as a recruiting tool," he said.

Lew Candura, the Morris County Democratic Party chairman, said he received a call from another Roxbury resident about the Obama fliers. He said he didn't expect them to influence anyone.

"Most people will take it for the garbage it is," Candura said. "I was appalled by it."

It is sick that there are White Supremest groups anywhere, but this is one that appears to have very few members. Candura's comment is on the mark - do these degenerates think people don't know that Obama is black?

Isn't it strange when you find people near you in real life. I hope we haven't represented the area badly.

37. True - I bet if you put a series of pictures up and asked people to guess the state
There would be far more VA, PA answers than NJ. I moved east when I was out of college in the 1970s to work in NJ and was shocked at how hilly, green and full of trees it is.

34. Is the fact that Obama has some
black African heritage news to anybody? Honestly - if that's the criterion for someone's voting decision, the decision was made months ago. Actually - if that's the criterion, there was no choice.

Who do the perpetrators think will be swayed by this kind of ugly, cowardly act?
