McCain: Economy still 'strong'
Source: MSNBC

ACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Addressing today’s news of upheaval in America’s financial markets, McCain said this morning that, despite fears over the "turmoil" on Wall Street, “the fundamentals of our economy are strong.”

“But,” he added, “These are very, very difficult times."

The Obama campaign seized on the statement, contrasting it with McCain's new ad -- "Crisis" -- which paints a more foreboding picture of the American economy.

"That shows that he is extraordinarily out of touch," said campaign spokesman Tommy Vietor. "It's even more surprising when you look at his ad today that shows the economy in crisis, that's the lead of his ad.”

In addressing the Wall Street troubles today, McCain criticized the existing system of oversight over financial markets and voiced his opposition to a bailout of Lehman brothers funded by taxpayer dollars.

“We’ve got to take every action to build an environment of robust energy supplies, lower inflation, controlled healthcare costs, access to international markets, low taxes and reduced burden of government to allow people to move forward toward a future of prosperity,” McCain said. “A McCain-Palin administration will replace the outdated, patchwork quilt of regulatory oversight and bring transparency and accountability to Wall Street.”

13. I agree, I use to have more faith in the American people
I agree, the public is too dimwitted, and it is a huge disappointment that they would fall for such flimsy arguments. It is so transparent, but American's are way too tied up in image!

3. Right, because LOGICALLY . . .
The man who favors the corporate practices and "solutions" that got us INTO this mess in the first place is the best one for the job. NOT that muslim-y waffle-drooler who wants to CHANGE all of this astounding progress and prosperity we're having. NOBODY wants THAT.

Now, where's my red tipped cane . . .

6. So, I guess McCain doesn't think we need any change to our financial markets.
or, is that this morning's speech and he'll be telling us the opposite this PM?

John, how's the architect of this meltdown working out as your policy chief?

14. The story is John McSame and his campaign are in a perpetual state of "Who's the Boss."
Either McSame can't lead his own people and keep them from releasing information he does not agree with, or his people can not keep the candidate up to date with the message "the collective" have decided to set forth.

Either way, that's not the kind of leadership this country needs in these times.

McCain is the story. We must never forget that. Palin is only relevant as she exposes McCain's hypocrisy, tendency to make decisions in the same thoughtless way McBush does.

24. The fundamentals of an economy
The fundamentals of any economy are an educated and well-trained work force, a strong manufacturing base, a stable currency, and a healthy population.

These are all the things the Republicans have attacked and/or destroyed. The fundamentals of our economy are far from strong.

McCain is a bumbling idiot -- and without the circus freak VP candidate at his side, no one wants to hear him.

It was the earrings that brought up the total.

Someone needs to ask: Ok John, what are these fundamentals?....I'd love see that asked and watch him try and weasel out of the question somehow.
