NEW YORK, July 25 (Reuters) - Federal officials will certify an emergency evacuation plan for the Indian Point nuclear power plant in New York, brushing aside critics who argue it would fail to protect residents from an attack on the facility.
A Westchester County official issued a statement in response to reports Friday that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) intends to recommend to the Nuclear Regulator Commission that the emergency plans for Indian Point be recertified.
"It is outrageous for FEMA to think it can override the counties who know more about the evacuation plan than anyone," said Westchester County Executive Andy Spano in a statement.
