Student GOP leader resigns over Obama remark
By MICHAEL RUBINKAM, Associated Press Writer

ALLENTOWN, Pa. - The leader of a statewide group of college Republicans has been forced to resign after posting racially insensitive comments about Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama on the Internet.

Adam LaDuca, 21, the former executive director of the Pennsylvania Federation of College Republicans, wrote on his Facebook page in late July that Obama has "a pair of lips so large he could float half of Cuba to the shores of Miami (and probably would.)"

LaDuca, who previously had called Martin Luther King Jr. a "pariah" and a "fraud," also wrote: "And man, if sayin' someone has large lips is a racial slur, then we're ALL in trouble."

The College Republicans asked LaDuca to resign after his remarks were publicized by the Pennsylvania Progressive, a blog written by a Democratic committeeman from Berks County. The group announced LaDuca's resignation on its Web site Friday.

16. Typical for a College Republican to say something like that
I've had my fair share of run-ins with "College Republicans on campus" when I was in college. Most of them think they're fighting a crusade against the progressives. And this kind of 'comment' is no exception.

The sad thing is, this guy will probably hold a high GOP position one day.

26. He may have resigned. Doesn't mean he is gone.
The GOP has no shame. This is a pale attempt at replicating an understanding of the concept.

Trust me, his Facebook page will still be pumping out the McCain/Palin talking points aka lie. Going forward, he will try for a while to color his racism within the party line. After all, there is plenty of room to play the race card code that doesn't have dwell on lips.

Sorry, these "people" disgust me.

27. resigned? hell, he should be their national spokesman!
He says publicly what most of those assholes believe privately. I see him getting a bad rap here for his racist idiocy, and that's exactly what it is, but on the other hand he was open about his thoughts and feelings. Hell, he probably thought what he said was witty and (apparently) even generally acceptable to the people who read his facebook page! If LaDuca's comments hadn't been shown to a wider audience, the rest of his flock would have gone along with it willingly, nodding their heads, chuckling.

He was stupid and nasty to believe what he did, even stupider to say it publicly, but the rest of the PFCR are real cowards. He acted as he did from racism and ignorance, they acted as they did from cowardice and shame. The worst thing that could happen out of this is for the rest of the PA college republicans to get off the hook because this LaDuca twit got nudged out of his role as THEIR FUCKING LEADER for confidently asserting something he sincerely thought his readers would find humorous and insightful. I want to know how many of them voted for him to be their leader knowing full well what he thought about black leaders!

What's worse, that one young person expressed his racist ideas, or that a dominant political party in the United States still cultivates a crop of young racists, grooming them for positions of prominence?

33. Pray that the young people who support Obama show up!
You are only kidding yourself if you think that Obama can win without the young people actually showing up to vote. Racism runs deep and wide in America and only the youth will be able to counteract it by their vote. The Democrats should concentrate their efforts to arouse the young people that their very future is in serious jeopardy if McCain and this abomination that is his running mate are elected. Palin is the embodiment of everything that is wrong about today's Republican Party. She is the reincarnation of Cheney and would use any means to crush her enemies.

most important part of his statement, and is likely the very reason he got sacked.

"a pair of lips so large he could float half of Cuba to the shores of Miami (and probably would.)"

Sure what he said was racist, since when did the GOP give a rats ass about racism, most of them are closet racists.

What got him sacked was the fact that he included Cubans and Miami in his derogatory slurs. He just basically said he does not like CUBANS and Obama would bring them over by the boat load (pun intended) to Miami if he were elected. I am sure that this punks statement did not sit well with the Cuban elite in Miami.

Most DU Floridians will probably back me up this, he just pissed off a boat load (pun intended)of wealthy Miami Cubans who contribute heavily to the GOP Presidential campaign. And my DU friends that is the reason he was sacked, not because he is a racist but because he trashed an important constituency to the GOP. Its just that was a convenient excuse and makes the GOP look concerned about racism. Pfft.

Really, think about it.
