McCain's history of hot temper raises concerns
Source: Yahoo / McClatchy

WASHINGTON — John McCain made a quick stop at the Capitol one day last spring to sit in on Senate negotiations on the big immigration bill, and John Cornyn was not pleased.

Cornyn, a mild-mannered Texas Republican, saw a loophole in the bill that he thought would allow felons to pursue a path to citizenship.

McCain called Cornyn's claim "chicken-s---," according to people familiar with the meeting, and charged that the Texan was looking for an excuse to scuttle the bill. Cornyn grimly told McCain he had a lot of nerve to suddenly show up and inject himself into the sensitive negotiations.

"F--- you," McCain told Cornyn, in front of about 40 witnesses.

It was another instance of the Republican presidential candidate losing his temper, another instance where, as POW-MIA activist Carol Hrdlicka put it, "It's his way or no way."

Man, wouldn't that be awesome if Obama started backing him into a corner on some issue & McCain just lashes out and says "Fuck you, you're wrong!"

I doubt this would happen, but we can always hope. :-)

17. Report: McCain Pushed Woman In A Wheelchair
Report: McCain Pushed Woman In A Wheelchair
September 7, 2002 02:20 PM

On Sunday, McClatchy Newspapers published a story on Sen. John McCain's oft-discussed temper, detailing one incident in which McCain allegedly pushed a woman in a wheelchair.

According to McClatchy's report, in 1996, McCain was met in the Senate office halls by a group of family members of POW-MIAs who had been pressing him to pursue more information on their relatives.

Six people present have written statements describing what they saw. According to the accounts, McCain waved his hand to shoo away Jeannette Jenkins, whose cousin was last seen in South Vietnam in 1970, causing her to hit a wall.

As McCain continued walking, Jane Duke Gaylor, the mother of another missing serviceman, approached the senator. Gaylor, in a wheelchair equipped with portable oxygen, stretched her arms toward McCain.

"McCain stopped, glared at her, raised his left arm ready to strike her, composed himself and pushed the wheelchair away from him," according to Eleanor Apodaca, the sister of an Air Force captain missing since 1967.

19. Shit.. that's bad! There is a pattern of anger in that man...
.. but i love how there is a line in the story that 'a long time has passed and who knows if memories are accurate'. Gee.. if SIX people there have the SAME recollection of the incident, then I'd say it was true. I doubt that anyone would forget a Senator raising his hand to a woman in a wheelchair, on oxygen, and pushing her out of the way. That would stick.. I'd think.

He's been mean all his life. Don't let ANYONE tell you otherwise. He was mean in high school -- don't let them spin it otherwise.

Edited on Sun Sep-07-08 03:23 PM by progressivebydesign
So don't let ANYONE tell you that we can't discuss his nasty temper because of his POW experience. He was ALWAYS an asshole. There is a reason why the guy doesn't have many good friends. Have you noticed the lack of WARMTH that the people on stage with him show toward him? A woman working in my home years ago, who was a devout born-again, told me something her pastor said once.. and it stuck with me: "You can judge a man's character by looking at his wife's face." Apparently, when the pastor said this, many people in the congregation began to cry -- because they knew it was true. A nasty man's wife shows it in her face...

25. The "look at his wife's face" reasoning is exactly why I have always felt sorry for Laura Bush...
... and now Cindy McCain. These are not happy women in their marriages. Each may have loved the young man she married, but that man changed for the worse long ago.

20. I think the Obama campaign is going to start raising this issue
of temperment more aggressively now. This morning, Barbara Boxer was on CNN and she talked about his temperment, she quoted some Repubs saying that the thought of McCain in the WH 'sends chills down their spines'. I think (and hope) they are trying to get the topic going.

I've been harping on this for months. This is the BEST ISSUE WE HAVE AGAINST MCCAIN. We need to reinforce that McCain is dangerous, potentially unstable, and a "loose cannon." Voters need to be SCARED to take the chance on a vote for McCain. The seed of uncertainty must be planted NOW!

22. Let's hope he has a "Colonel Jessup" moment
Watch "A Few Good Men" and you'll see what I mean. The Tom Cruise character (sorry, but the name escapes me) recognizes that if he pressed Jessup (the best role Jack Nicholson ever played, and that's saying a lot) enough, he'd reveal his true colors. And when that happened, it was all over for him.

If Barack pushes hard enough, he can get under Grandpa's skin the same way. I'd love to see it.

I wouldn't want anyone with such a hair-trigger temper with his finger on the red button. It just might be the end of civilization as we know it. :scared: We should be scared of an self-centered, immature man-child who not only tends to shoot first and ask questions years later, but also one whose idea of right and wrong is "right is what I want; wrong is when I'm told no."
