Obama Takes First Direct Shot At Palin
Source: The Huffington Post

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. — Barack Obama made his first direct criticism of Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin on Saturday, saying she pretends to oppose spending earmarks when she actually has embraced them.

Speaking to 800 people at the Wabash Valley Fairgrounds in Terre Haute, Ind., the Democratic presidential nominee ridiculed John McCain and his running mate, the Alaska governor, for describing themselves as agents of change at this week's GOP convention.

"Don't be fooled," Obama told the crowd surrounding him in a large barn. "John McCain's party, with the help of John McCain, has been in charge" for nearly eight years.

"I know the governor of Alaska has been saying she's change, and that's great," Obama said. "She's a skillful politician. But, you know, when you've been taking all these earmarks when it's convenient, and then suddenly you're the champion anti-earmark person, that's not change. Come on! I mean, words mean something, you can't just make stuff up."

35. Interesting...
...seems that Obama did the right thing and invested in infrastructure improvements, environmental concerns and children's causes as well...all great things IMHO.

This is the last line of the following article:

"So while Sen. McCain was going after cutting earmarks in Washington," said Steve Ellis of Taxpayers for Common Sense, "Gov. Palin was going after getting earmarks."

Check the article out here: http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/la-na-earmarks3-2008...

I love the way she treats her own state people...the "lesser haves" are verbally looked down upon with a "bridge that goes nowhere".

And I'd (NOT!) want this tyrant in the White House---WHY?!??!?!

God HELP AmeriKa.

10. Obama has never been anti-earmark...
he has, however, pushed for transparency, and the politicians asking for the earmarks have to put their names to them under legislation that was introduced by him.

Sarah Palin was for them before she was against them.

Obama is just pointing out the huge hypocrisy of Palin's remarks, not taking a stance on earmarks themselves.

13. Earmarks are a fact of life in budgets.
It's the hypocrisy of saying you're against them, when you're requesting them I don't like.

Nothing on this list looks wasteful, and for a state the size of Illinois, it all still adds up to less than one bridge to nowhere.

17. Holy moly, do you even read your own posts?
Do those look like boondoggles to you? Health programs, educational programs, environmental initiatives, replacing aging infrastructure?

By the way, look up the data on what citizens of Illinois pay in Federal taxes and what they get in Federal funds in return, then contrast that to the amounts Alaskans pay/get. Quite an eye-opener.

They get things moving in their home states...... What an idiot you are. Looks like Obama was on top of his game getting his state taken care of.... Palin said she didn't ask for money in her state which is a flat our lie... She took the money for the Bridge to nowhere and bought something else with it....

Probably some lipstick or some such shit....

Obama isn't against earmarks. He's just against hiding them. So no, not a losing argument at all. She lied. Says she's against them.

Typical Republican though, for it before they're against it and when elected, for it again.
