Michael Moore To Release New Film For Free

NEW YORK — Inspired by Neil Young and Radiohead, Michael Moore will release his new film online and for free.

The film, "Slacker Uprising," follows Moore's 62-city tour during the 2004 election to rally young voters. It will be available for three weeks as a free download to North American residents, beginning Sept. 23. An official announcement of the film is planned for Friday.

Moore said he considered releasing "Slacker Uprising" theatrically as "Michael Moore's big election year movie" as he did with 2004's "Fahrenheit 9/11," which was highly critical of President Bush.

Instead, Moore opted for a symbol of gratitude to his fans as he approaches the 20th anniversary of his first film, 1989's "Roger & Me." . . .

I spent the entire evening with Michael Moore when "Roger & Me" came out. He waited at the Genesee County Bar Association (downtown Flint) for friends to fax New York reviews for the movie (how quaint; long time ago). They were great, he was ecstatic. I'm sure he doesn't remember me, but I was an admirer before and since. Just bought "Mike's Election Guide 2008." Looking forward to reading it.

2. My Michael Moore story...he's a mensch

I was in Minneapolis visiting a friend. I didn't realize that Michael Moore was going to be in St Paul promoting one of his books,I think it was Stupid White Men. This was the tour where he had one show and due to intense demand would end up doing another show later. Well, the same thing happened in St Paul. There was overwhelming demand for the fist show so he agreed to do a second show. I stood outside in the cold (remember this is MINNESOTA) waiting for the second show, which he did for FREE. My friends and I ended up in the front row. He talked a bit about about his book and then showed a rough cut of Bowling for Columbine.

During the Q&A portion of the show he asked who had traveled the farthest to see him. A couple of guys said they were from Chicago. He reached into his pocket and gave them each $20. My friends urged me to raise my hand since I had traveled from St Louis. I didn't do so, so they yelled out at him that I had traveled from St Louis MO not St Louis Park MN. I told him that was true. He asked me if I drove and I said no. So then he went "well la ti da." My friends then said I had bought my ticket on Priceline. That got his attention. He asked how much I paid, I told him. He reached into his pocket and GAVE me $80 and told me to return after the show as he would come up with the rest. I was flabbergasted that he did that much so I didn't go back after the show.

Although he didn't say my name, my story made that week's Mike Mail.

4. I Wish Michael Would Do A Film About - Manipulation ......

how the American public is manipulated by the MSM, the parties and the corporations. In it I would point out who owns the media. I would point out what 'wedge issues' are and why it is important as a voter to consider all the issues that the candidate stands for and not just let one issue be the reason one votes for someone. It would be neat if he had a test that asked people questions as to how they feel about certain issues and at the end classify them as a Democrat or Republican. I'm sure that many people would be surprised that if they considered all the issues - they might find themselves leaning more one way than the other and opposite of what they thought.

The movie would also show how the parties have changed in time - so that when one says the Republican party of today is not the party of my father - it would make some sense.

Really most people don't realize that most everything is spin these days. This movie would show people how to recognize it.

I viewed a clip from last nights Daily Show - where Jon Stewart - shows KKKarl Rove say one thing about Palin and something completely the opposite for Kaine. Clips like these would be very telling and maybe would wake some people up. People I wish would watch the Daily Show or check out DU - are just to lazy or uninterested in anything but themselves. As a result - they vote what they hear or what they are told. No thought in their decisions.

Point in question - I purchased a copy of Michael's F911 for a Repug friend. I told him that even if he didn't agree with it - he should view it for himself and not let a Hannity or Rush or O'Rielly make that decision for him. I gave the DVD to him right after it was issued. I spoke with him this a.m. and he still hasn't viewed it.

6. "Outfoxed" Movie

Moore would do a good job with a MSM manipulation movie.

If you haven't seen "Outfoxed" yet, I highly recommend it.
It's less than $10 on Amazon - great movie about Fox News and their lies, with lots of interviews from ex-Foxers.

It's Robert Greenwald, who has lots of these low budget movies (against Wal-Mart, Iraq War Profiteers...and more). He does this so people can afford it and pass it on...it's about the message, not profit (concept that would make Repubs heads spin!). There's a Real McCain movie that I haven't seen yet...think it was available for free on the web, at least for awhile. I have no problem paying $10 as a show of support.

The story you tell is mine, too...at an emotional level. I like how you share the facts through the story of how you became aware of them. Other than going to Ohio (which I did not do...although I contributed to the GLIBS for the recount)...my emotional journey was the same...especially the 'truth' part.

I wish you success with your film. I posted it in the Election Reform Forum, where this is discussed a lot. I'm hoping they will spread it to other places. :7 And I will be ordering the DVD to share with family and friends.:patriot:

This is good, though. Good on him. One of my coolest memories was getting to shake his hand when he showed up unannounced to thank the people in line for Fahrenheit 911 in NY.
