Poll: Obama gets 'convention bounce'
Source: USA Today

ST. PAUL — The Democratic National Convention significantly boosted Americans' views of Barack Obama as a strong leader who "shares your values" and can manage the economy and Iraq, a USA TODAY/Gallup Poll taken Saturday and Sunday finds.

Republican John McCain's advantage in handling terrorism was dramatically reduced and his "unfavorable" rating ticked up to its highest level this year.

"This is a convention bounce," says Robert Eisinger, a political scientist at Lewis & Clark College and author of The Evolution of Presidential Polling. The results reflect the impact of themes the Democrats hammered at their convention in Denver last week.

Specifically, 50%-43%.

1. Now, these are numbers that make sense!
and from the article:

The results reflect the impact of themes the Democrats hammered at their convention in Denver last week.

And they have to KEEP ON HAMMERING! And also add, the pukes gave us not one, but TWO recessions in eight years!!

3. Village idiot Sean Hannity's opening comment today was

5. Quick question...
Where do I get polling numbers that are the most accurate? I always hear them using different poll numbers week to week, and I've heard that there are a number of sources to choose from. I just assume they only report the ones that give McCain the most lead. But I think I heard somewhere there is one that combines and averages out all of them, but I can see how that still might not be accurate if their are a majority of conservative polls that are skewed. So, is there a fair, trustworthy place to get poll numbers? And how would a person participate in these polls?

6. Welcome to DU!
I wish I had a good link to a good source, but I don't. The great thing about DU, though, is that there is a wealth of intelligence and people willing to help.

Enjoy this great site! :hi:

Edited to fix link.

8. In order to participate, you have to get a phone call on your land line phone.
You do have a land line don't you? Well, I don't, and a lot of other people don't either. That's why I am placing very little value on polls this year. I like to see when Obama goes up, but it is going to be a landslide win by Obama no matter what the polls say.

12. Exactly
My eyes and ears tell me Obama is winning by a wide margin (and the electoral college map does, too). Polls are trending towards useless this time around. But they DO conveniently underpin the happy/stupid MSM storyline that the race is just so gosh-darn close!

10. Have a look at pollingreport.com
That site doesn't evaluate the polls, but it does graph all of them together, so that you can get a sense of overall trends and outliers.

9. Isn't it funny - on LBN there's a CNN headline saying the exact opposite...
...this should tell you that Polls this year are all over the map... pollsters don't know how to sample, who a "likely voter" is, or what to make of this race. The fact that two polls taken over the same period can have such polar opposite results should remind DUers that polls don't mean much this year.

You're best bet would be to look at state polls, and try to find someplace (or someone) you trust to look at the electoral college race.

11. No, the CNN poll is an outlier
The other polls aren't all over the place. There's broad agreement on Obama's lead and bounce.

13. Thanks!
It sucks so bad here in Nashville. I get nothing but Conservative radio right now, and no cable atm. I work at night, and listen to talk radio the whole night, so my healthy intake of things, like "truth" or "facts" is limited. The closest I have to a Progressive voice is Phil Hendry, which I can see why he "allowed" on our local talk radio station, as he is "free-range progressive" :eyes:
Despite my gut feeling that Obama is blowing McCain away, I am still a little worried they might steal the election somehow. Understandably so, after 2000, then 2004. But after McCain's VP pick, it almost seems like McCain is trying to lose on purpose. Maybe he wanted to pick Lieberman, or do something revolutionary, but the master pupeteers wouldn't allow it, so he did this to spite them. I almost think they know they are going to lose, and they are setting Sarah up for the 2012 election. They know the Dems are going to make history with Obama being the first black in office, and they want to make history with the first female president. We need to take her down now, before she gets 4 more years of experience, and runs in 2012. I try to talk to everyone here, but I seem to be surrounded by rednecks, and religious nuts dedicated to conservatism, despite all logic. I even have people telling me that Obama should be shot, and we shouldn't have a n'word as a president! Actually, most Repubs claim they are "independent" now.
Anyway, thanks, and glad I came upon this site!
