NOLA.comPresident Bush spoke by phone Saturday morning with Gov. Bobby Jindal, along with the governors of three other Gulf Coast states, to make sure they were getting adequate federal assistance as they prepare for Hurricane Gustav, a White House spokesman said.
The president thanked the governors for their "proactive efforts to mobilize their states" in advance of the hurricane, which is expected to make landfall near Morgan City just after midnight on Tuesday as a Category 3 storm, spokesman Blair Jones said.
"President Bush pledged the full support of the federal government and encouraged the governors to continue to coordinate closely with Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff and FEMA Administrator David Paulison so we all make sure the preparedness and response is as effective as possible," Jones said.
Jones said Bush phoned Jindal, Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour, Alabama Governor Bob Riley and Texas Governor Rick Perry between 7 a.m. and 9 a.m. Eastern time today
