Bush calls Jindal to confirm federal help
Source: NOLA.com

President Bush spoke by phone Saturday morning with Gov. Bobby Jindal, along with the governors of three other Gulf Coast states, to make sure they were getting adequate federal assistance as they prepare for Hurricane Gustav, a White House spokesman said.

The president thanked the governors for their "proactive efforts to mobilize their states" in advance of the hurricane, which is expected to make landfall near Morgan City just after midnight on Tuesday as a Category 3 storm, spokesman Blair Jones said.

"President Bush pledged the full support of the federal government and encouraged the governors to continue to coordinate closely with Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff and FEMA Administrator David Paulison so we all make sure the preparedness and response is as effective as possible," Jones said.

Jones said Bush phoned Jindal, Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour, Alabama Governor Bob Riley and Texas Governor Rick Perry between 7 a.m. and 9 a.m. Eastern time today

Last flight out of N.O. leaves at 6 p.m. Sunday

The last flight out of Louis Armstrong International Airport before Hurricane Gustav makes landfall overnight Monday is expected to depart at 6 p.m. Sunday, an airport spokeswoman said.

The final departure times for each airline will vary, so travelers should confirm their flights with their carrier before arriving at the Kenner airport, spokeswoman Michelle Wilcut said Saturday.

Starting Sunday, only ticketed passengers will be allowed to enter the airport. All passengers should have proof of a flight reservation in the form of a paper ticket, boarding pass or printed itinerary from an airline Web site.

Checkpoints will be set up for passengers to show proof of a flight reservation as they approach the airport terminal.

Passengers should also keep in mind that many airport employees are under evacuation orders, so some support services such as food and beverage and retail businesses may not be open.

3. Amazing What An Election Year Will Do
It wasn't that long ago when another hurricane came ashore but he was far too concerned with strumming his gee-tar and enjoying birthday cake!
