Clark's Son Blasts Media for Campaign Coverage

Feb 3, 3:15 PM (ET)
By Arthur Spiegelman

OKLAHOMA CITY (Reuters) - Retired general Wesley Clark's only son blasted the media for its coverage of his father's bid for the Democratic nomination Tuesday and said he would like to see his father withdraw from the race if he does not win the Oklahoma primary.

Wesley Clark Jr. a 34-year-old screenwriter, in a meeting with reporters while his father called voters from a phone bank, said; "I'd like to see him win today. If he doesn't win I don't want to see him stay out there...

...Clark Jr. said the media had not been fair to his father or any of the other candidates and was giving President Bush a free run. "It's all about access. You know you would be denied access if you all covered this fairly," he said.

He said his father had sacrificed a lot for his country in his 35 years in the military and that he was proud of him and the race he was running. But he said no one was reporting his stand on the issues...

4. you'll have to copy & paste the link-
the link is the entire line, but because of the characters the address contains, DU's software or something doesn't read it correctly, and cuts off the linkage in mid-address...
sorry, I don't know what to do about it.

2. WP story
(snip)

"It's been a really disillusioning experience," Clark said, his tone bitter during an impromptu conversation with reporters. "We sacrificed a hell of a lot for this country over 34 years. We lived in a damn trailer when I was a freshman in high school."

Referring to politics, Clark said, "It's a dirty business filled with a lot of people pretending to be a lot of things they are not."

(snip)

Referring to his father, Clark Jr. said his "favorite" example of coverage devoid of content were stories about Clark wearing sweaters on the campaign trail. He also pointed to coverage this past weekend of speeding tickets his father's caravan got while returning late Saturday night from McAlester.

"What did we get on the news this weekend? Speeding tickets in Oklahoma," he said. "You got to be . . . kidding me. It's a hell of a way to pick a president."

Referring to his father's effort since he entered the race last September, Clark said, "We got in really late, we're not politicians. He did his best and I respect him like hell for it."

3. what a great line
"Its a hell of a way to pick a president." Amen. The "kool kids" journalism we get these days really makes me sick. Its the reason, despite their occasional pro-dem columns, that I can't stand Maureen Dowd and her type. I hate her cynical tongue in cheek take on everything -- elections are serious, life or death business, and their carping about crap like sweaters is maddening. 520 soldiers are dead because of the choices people made in 2000, but MODO and her like can still sit around spewing crap like they're covering an awards ceremony. How dare they.

I hope spys for all the networks are reading these stories and posts like this in response to them. I personally want them to know: YOU HAVE LOST ALL CREDIBILITY WITH THE PEOPLE. Yeah, I know, you don't believe me. You're still too busy believing your OWN HYPE about what the American people really want. You THINK that your brain washing is working. You keep telling us it is!. But, guess what, more and more people like me and a lot of others are waking up every day. A lot of us have known for YEARS that what you call "news" is just "entertainment" at best and social propaganda at worst. You've lied and distorted and ridiculed and minimized and trivialized and distracted people when YOUR RESPONSIBILITY IS TO EMPOWER THE PEOPLE WITH INFORMATION. What you've done and what you continue to do is the exact opposite.

Remember: You're either with us, or you're with them, the terrorists. So far, you've made your choice all too clear.

edit: added "and trivialized"

5. I support Kerry, but I agree that Clark has been ignored . . .
by the media . . . he's brought a lot to this campaign, and his positions should have received far more coverage than they did . . . it's almost as if the media is manipulating the race to bump this one, then that one, then the next one . . . if I didn't know better, I'd say that the media is biased, unfair, maniuplative, and controlling . . . but we all know we have a "free press" in this country, so this just can't be true . . . can it? . . . (sarcasm intended) . . .

8. am glad that Clark's son has said these things
it needs to be heard from every rooftop.

These media whores make me :puke:

I watched Nightline tonight and to hear their stupid Republican talking heads spin their garbage is absolutely unbelievable.

Let's see - the republicans and the media really really want John Kerry to be the dem candidate because stupid Kerry said he wasn't going to campaign in the south - he said that no southern state was necessary to win the WH - well, the puking head was literally creaming his pants over that one - stating that that meant idiotboy could save his dollars for other parts of the country, too. * could go into the southland and the people down there would be so grateful that they would just lap him right up.

This was all done in the guise of "fair and balanced" reporting - but he gave it away (like anyone couldn't figure out who he was pulling for) when he said "and being a Republican allows me to ..."

I wish we had an FCC that was effective and we could just pull the plugs on all these worthless sewer dwellers.
