Bush Orders New Measures to Protect Food
Bush Orders New Measures to Protect Food

Tuesday February 3, 2004 10:01 PM

by IRA DREYFUSS

Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON (AP) - President Bush is ordering three Cabinet departments and the Environmental Protection Agency to develop new measures to protect the nation's food supply from terrorist attack.

In an executive order released Tuesday by the White House, Bush told the departments of agriculture, health and human services, and homeland security as well as the Environmental Protection Agency, to develop new methods to respond to potentially calamitous agricultural terrorism.

The directive calls for creation of systems to contain any outbreaks of plant or animal disease that result from terror attack, and to prevent or cure the diseases themselves.

The president ordered the agencies to plan ways to stabilize the food supply and the economy and to help the nation recover after an attack. And he ordered the agencies to help agribusinesses develop plans to protect themselves.

4. OH MY GOD !!!!!

If Bush's history of "protection" acts is any record we can look forward to a bill that:

1) Lowers overall food quality
2) Eliminates FDA inspectors COMPLETELY through EVEN MORE "voluntary compliance" programs
3) Makes statistics on "downer cows" trade secrets so the public can't tell what they're doing wrong.
4) Declares Oprah a terrorist for insinuating that "Cows shouldn't be eating other cows".
5) Subsidizes IBP and Perdue DIRECTLY. Probably by transporting more "guest workers" to packing plants in Iowa directly from Tiauna (on shitty Mexican trucks that don't meet US Standards).
6) Strips FDA officials of "government service" protection so that Bush can fire all the whistle blowers.

God help us. If Bush declared that he was going to protect me and my family personally, I'd run for the hills.

Monsanto, the meat producing industry & pesticide manufacturers pose a FAR greater and more immediate threat to the food supply than any so called terrorists, though ironically, many of the stonewalled measures that would impose regulatory safeguards or force disclosures would also protect against the illusory threats that this throroughly corrupt administration conjures up.

7. I used to think this guy was kind of harmless
However this was before he became governor.
but now he is going after the nations food supply.
Guess I need to be more involved in my food coops. The main stream alternatives are going to be even less safe.
