McCain Advisers Say Stance on Abortion Is Crucial for No. 2

By ELISABETH BUMILLER
Published: August 21, 2008

SEDONA, Ariz. — Senator John McCain has narrowed his list of potential running mates to a handful of candidates and appears unlikely to select anyone who supports abortion rights, several advisers close to his campaign said on Thursday.

Former Gov. Mitt Romney of Massachusetts and Gov. Tim Pawlenty of Minnesota are the top candidates...

<snip>

McCain associates recently put forth two other candidates, former Gov. Tom Ridge of Pennsylvania and Senator Joseph I. Lieberman, independent of Connecticut, as possibilities.

<snip>

People close to the campaign also floated a wild-card choice, Gen. David H. Petraeus, the top American commander in Iraq.

<snip> (further down they talk about Obama)

“I want somebody who’s independent, somebody who can push against my preconceived notions and challenge me so we have got a robust debate in the White House,” Mr. Obama told the newspaper.

He called his decision difficult and said that “we had some great choices.”

sorry about all the snips, it's best to follow the link and read the full article

It shows me that the McCain people have big mouths, giving out little leaks about every possibility to the point that I have to ask, "who cares?" It's like they're addicted to talking to the press or something.

The contrast with Obama is stark: “I’ve made the selection, and that’s all you’re going to get...”

Who do you want making the most important decisions for our country in the next four to eight years?

1. yeah, THAT"s the most important aspect (WRONG-O)
please tell me that with all the kids that have died in Bush's Wars, the state of the economy, the state of our crumbling infrastructure and all the other stuff in our country going down the crapper.....the most IMPORTANT thing is recinding a FEDERALLY sanction LAW allowing women to be in charge of their own reproduction choices is the deciding factor in choosing a running mate. Oh, I give up.....i used to laugh at my granny's phrase.."going to hell in a handbasket"....but it's the damn truth people. wake up and smell the coffee.

on a more serious note: If the VP picks are romney and biden - when romney brings up 'support the troops', biden should retort with "my son is in Iraq, where are your sons"

15. They have to go with anti abortion-
Without the Bubba and Holy Roller vote the repukes know they are sunk. From Reagan on the repukes welded themselves to the religious right and the southern bigots. This may be Rove's lasting legacy, the destruction of the GOP. Sooner or later they were gonna get a candidate that didn't want to play that shit, so now the chickens are coming home to roost. The biggest favor the GOP could do itself is just to have the stones to tell the evangelicals to get lost. And the evangelicals should tell the GOP to get lost and start fielding their own candidates. Who knows? Maybe the holy rollers enjoy being lied to and betrayed. You'd think they'd be tired of being bitch to the repukes. But please don't worry, there is still plenty of time for the Democrats to fuck it up and hand it to McSame.

The Bubba and Holy Roller voters are gonna blow a gasket when they get a Mormon on the ticket. To lots of these folks Mormonism is a brainwashing cult that should be exterminated. That's no bullshit, I hear that kind of shit everyday here in Texas. But at least Mormons kinda believe in Jesus, not like those Jesus killing Jews. Again, I am not making this up. I hear this crap from good God fearing Christians all the time. So, thanks McSame, Mitt will be a great choice!

6. It's been the same ever since Reagan
The Republican candidate promises to do something about abortion, then conveniently forgets about it until the next election cycle, then dredges it up again as a ready-made wedge issue.

The ones I know, think the Mormon religion is right up there with the Muslim religion. Around here, Christian radio devoted months to how Mormons are Not Christians and they voted for Huckabee in the repuke primary.

The religiously insane Christians are not going to like this.

Many anti-choicers have figured out after many years that the GOP only uses this as a campaign issue - they never actually do anything about it.
