Obama casts McCain as rich, out of touch
By BETH FOUHY – 48 minutes ago

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Democrat Barack Obama Thursday depicted John McCain as rich, out of touch and less a foreign-policy expert than he claims — part of the increasingly negative tone of the presidential hopeful's message as he tries to fight the perception that his campaign has stalled.

Two national polls released Wednesday showed McCain has drawn almost even with Obama in the last few weeks, thanks to an aggressive new tone and a series of negative campaign commercials painting Obama as a tax raiser who is ill-prepared to lead in a dangerous world. That, in turn, has prompted Obama to step up his rhetoric against McCain.

Both an NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll and a CBS News/New York Times survey found the race close — Obama with 45 percent to 42 percent for McCain.

At a town-hall meeting here, Obama was introduced by Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine, widely believed to be on Obama's short list of possible vice presidential contenders. The two met privately for about 15 minutes before the campaign appearance. Kaine later batted away questions about his prospects.

"I'm going to let the campaign speak for the campaign," he said.

Speaking to supporters, Obama chided McCain for an interview he gave to the Politico Web site where he said he didn't know how many homes he owns. McCain's wife, Cindy, is an heiress to a large beer distributorship whose wealth is estimated to be at least $100 million.

"If you're like me, and you've got one house, or you are like the millions of people who are struggling right now to keep up with their mortgage so they don't lose their home, you might have a different perspective," Obama said.

1. That flub was an absolute goldmine.
Would have been nice to have gotten it a bit closer to the election, but it can be milked for quite a while.

4. So Obama's campaign message is "increasingly Negative" while
Micky Jeez is agressive...

I know both campaigns were called "negative" but that agressive note makes McCain seem more "fair"...

It is a play on words. The MSM has struck a chord with middle class voters by recently painting McCain campaign as a bold aggressive campaign. Yet the overall tone of his message has been very negative. Obama has attacked McCain with negative ads as a mere means of rebuttal. The media is clearly trying to lead us into a false perception that this is a dog fight for the presidency, and there is little mud to be slung around by the Obama campaign. He is simply correcting McCain's egregious assumptions.

Which is ridiculous. But alas, I have no control over that.

7. accurate casting then seeing as McCain is rich and apparently he is out of touch
with the average american as well as reality itself if you go by the speeches he was giving in the middle east when he tried to link Iran and Al-qaeda.

10. Ever wonder why McSame and Clinton pushed the "Elitist" meme?
There are a 100,000,000 reasons why.

This constant projection is apparent in other ways as well. Obama's religion? Because McSame isn't religious. Obama's FP? Because McSame has a dangerous FP. Obama's ambition? Because McSame's ambition burns like a thousand forges. Etcetera.

11. That McCain used the word "staff" in this gaffe makes it even funnier.
It immediately conjures up images of Jeeves and the rest of the "staff" at McCain Acres.

Take McCain's own words:
"I don't know how many homes I own. I'll have one of my staff look it up for you."

Now imagine actor Jim Backus in his best "Thurston Howell III" voice saying those same words.

I wonder which member of Johnny Mac's "staff" will supply us with the information? The butler? One of the junior servants? The housemaid? One of her staff? The gardener? The chauffeur?
