1. Well, his birthday is coming up
on the 29th, so, if Fay can just hold off a bit, he and Fuckface can yuk it up again over a birthday cake in Arizona, far from that pesky storm.

2. Not a joke,
Laugh all you want but for those of us here in southwest Florida we take this sort of thing very seriously. In fact, all of us that live on the coast from the tip of Texas to Massachusetts take hurricanes very seriously.

Fey is going to land somewhere is there are people that are going to die. In fact, just this morning four people died in Cuba due to this tropical storm.

That picture and Fey have nothing in common.

Get some compassion.

4. Be careful down there! Even if Fay is not strong, it can be dangerous
I'm up in Tallahassee, and the spaghetti models have been back and forth whether Fay will hit you down there, then dump rain all up the peninsula or stay off the coast until north of Tarpon Springs, build up more strength and come this way. We're far enough from the coast not to worry much about the wind and high enough to not worry about the storm surge but I do worry about the people who are not as lucky as we are.

21. Good! Let's all hope Fay does not suddenly develop up
No one in Florida needs a strong storm. Georgia can use the rain, so if Fay stays a weak Cat 1 or TS, they will get the good soaking that will help replenish the aquifers and ground water.

20. Thanks! Tallahassee has lucked out - no direct hits
We did get the remnants of Florence in 2004 or 05 but all we got was a lot of rain and a little wind. My DH was driving home from Atlanta in the middle of it and never even had to pull off the side of the road.

A couple of years ago St Marks got a lot of storm surge from one that hit farther out on the panhandle, some flooding and loss of a couple of historic buildings, but no loss of life.

We here at DU are WELL aware of what a hurricane can do.

McCain is trying to do damage control on this image, his birthday celebration with Bush on the day that Katrina hit:

I posted a story with a comment on the misleading headline.

Holy crap, Mika, since you're in S.Florida you must know everything about everything.

Maybe your could provide a link that refutes about 100 articles regarding the storm crossing Cuba this morning and how four people died?

Jeepers, Mika, you're so friggin' smart! The Asscociated Press has nothing on you!

I don't claim to be smarter than anyone else. i just read more than the headline of the stories. As you'll notice in the story I linked to, the persons killed were not in Cuba.

On edit;

I'll make it easy for you ...

AP
http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5ieqrgtTtQ_y0zYskNaTS...
A man died Saturday in Haiti while trying to cross a river in Leogane, south of Port-au-Prince.

Fay also damaged crucial farmland as Haiti contends with a food crisis that has sparked deadly riots, although it was unclear how many acres were affected.

In neighboring Dominican Republic, flood waters drowned a woman and her 13-year-old niece and 5-year-old nephew, after they tried to cross a swollen river in a car, civil defense agency director Luis Luna Paulino said.

18. Oh my christ...
Okay, four people died just a few miles away from Cuba as a direct result of the Fey and you're spiting hairs regarding the location. You even went to the effort of starting a new thread about the fact that the people that died where not in Cuba?

I don't have a response to that that other than my question. I'm a little dumbfounded.

But seriously, check your storm stash. Make sure everything is there and you have evac plan. I'm teasing in my first paragraph but I don't want you to get hurt. Also, check in with any elderly or infirm neighbors.

Good luck.

I'm not splitting hairs regarding location. Cuba is an entirely different country, with entirely different disaster plans, than Haiti and the DR.

I'm just an advocate of posting facts here on DU, and reading only the AP headlines of their stories (especially when it comes to most anything relating to Cuba) can often be misleading.

Cheers

Maybe that is why he was "briefed".

Oddly enough, after that there are no appearances on his calendar at his campaign website until Sept. 1 at the GOP Convention. But possibly he has additional Florida stops on his schedule. Just nothing he wants us common people to know about...

Grand Canyon floods breach dam, force evacuations

PHOENIX - Days of heavy rains around the Grand Canyon caused an earthen dam to fail Sunday and created flooding that forced helicopters to pluck hundreds of residents and campers from the gorge. No injuries were immediately reported.

Or someone has.

Campers, hikers, and residents are being evacuated by helecopter. No loss of life, no significant property damage yet.

So far, it appears the state (or someone) is doing things right.

Of course, no matter what, this is no Katrina (or Fay). There are hundreds of people affected, not thousands or hundreds of thousands.

That's where the gubbamint sent them after Katrina. They were parked in Massachusetts while people died and the drivers collected overtime while trying to figure out what to do next. Or was that water trucks? Anyway, Homeland Security had "no comment."
