Kilpatrick will stand trial for alleged assault
Source: The Detroit News

DETROIT -- A Detroit judge bound Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick over to Wayne County Circuit Court for trial on assault charges Friday after a preliminary examination that lasted more than five hours.

Judge Ronald Giles of the 36th District Court made the ruling shortly before 2:30 p.m., saying it was clear Kilpatrick knew the man who approached his sister's front door to serve a subpoena was a police officer and the contact between Kilpatrick and the officer was not accidental.

Friday's development adds to a long list of legal woes the mayor is facing. His next court date on the assault charges is Aug. 22.

Brian White, a Wayne County sheriff's detective assigned to the county prosecutor's office, and JoAnn Kinney, a former Detroit police officer working as an investigator for the county prosecutor, both testified at the preliminary examination that on July 24 Kilpatrick shoved White, knocking him into Kinney.

3. If they can drag this out long enough he won't make the convention.
He is tethered and can't go anywhere except for the three neighboring counties. And they don't want him at the convention anyway according to what I know.

4. NPR just announced he's not going
WUOM (Universtiy of Michigan Public Radio) just made the announcement. Kwame said that he didn't want to be a distraction at the convention.

Thank God!

5. That is good news!
I like how he is making the noble gesture to not go except if he isn't out of the tether he couldn't go anyway. Every morning in paper I am either greeted by his ugly face or his name. No one can know how depressing that is. He just needs to resign and disappear and take his buddies with him.
