Study: Troops Deployed Abroad Gave Six Times More To Obama Than To McCain
Source: Talking Points Memo

According to an analysis of campaign contributions by the nonpartisan Center for Responsive Politics, Democrat Barack Obama has received nearly six times as much money from troops deployed overseas at the time of their contributions than has Republican John McCain, and the fiercely anti-war Ron Paul, though he suspended his campaign for the Republican nomination months ago, has received more than four times McCain's haul.

Despite McCain's status as a decorated veteran and a historically Republican bent among the military, members of the armed services overall -- whether stationed overseas or at home -- are also favoring Obama with their campaign contributions in 2008, by a $55,000 margin. Although 59 percent of federal contributions by military personnel has gone to Republicans this cycle, of money from the military to the presumed presidential nominees, 57 percent has gone to Obama.

4. "McCain's status as a decorated veteran"
I'm surprised the GOP is running with this "decorated veteran" image considering what it did to John Kerry. And the fact GOPers supported W, a military deserter.

This is what GOPers think of decorated veterans...

GOP = "Gang Of hyPocrites"

I want to :puke:.

It may be uncharitable of me, but I hope that sorry excuse for a human being has lost her job, lost her home, is suffering from some loathsome disease that she cannot afford to have treated and has ended up in Gitmo for saying that she regrets having supported Dubya.

Actually, it was charitable of me. She deserves to suffer a lot more than that.

Or is he on the level when he asks, "I can't account for this odd phenomenon. Anyone have any ideas why this might be happening?"

Ya think maybe the folks stationed over in the damn quagmire might have a little more respect for a man with a plan to bring them home, than a man who is ok with them staying another hundred years?

11. Speaking From Experience....
.... most enlisted non-lifers become Dems; most officers and career enlisted ( lifers ) come into the military as diehard rethugs.... and only get worse. Since there are many more enlisted non-lifers in the service at any one time than lifers/officers, I would say that the military, as a whole, is heavily Dem.

31. One of my best friends
is a 44-year-old Marine Lt. Col. (res), and he comes from a traditionally Marine family. A veteran of Gulf War One, and, man, does he love his Marines. He's also got an MBA and three little kids and a great wife.

He told me he'll resign his commission if they try to call him up. He also said, and I love this because I think it's the perfect encapsulation, "The Republicans made me a Democrat."

14. Troops contribute more to Obama campaign
Edited on Thu Aug-14-08 02:54 PM by Khaotic
Source: Navy Times

Military personnel are contributing more to Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Barack Obama of Illinois than to his Republican opponent, Sen. John McCain of Arizona, according to a nonpartisan group tracking donations to candidates.

The Center for Responsible Politics says that in terms of total contributions during the 2008 election cycle, 859 service members have contributed a combined $335,536 to Obama as of June 31, an average of about $391 a person.

In comparison, 558 service members have contributed a combined $280,513 to Sen. John McCain, an average of $503 a person.

Running a close third in the contributions is Rep. Ron Paul, R-Texas, who has suspended his run for the Republican presidential nomination but has not formally dropped out of the race. He has received $232,411 in contributions from 537 military members, an average of $433 a person.

36. Ever wonder why the Bush administration
never mentions how the military voted in 2004? If it was good news for them, we'd hear about it. During the mid-terms, areas around military bases showed increasing support for Dems.
No doubt, the majority still voted Republican. But in decreasing numbers.
I think we're all about to get a real wake-up call this November on who is voting and how they're voting. The pollsters and most of us are clueless. We think we know...based on the past. But America has undergone major shifts. Pollsters are talking to people with land lines -- not cell phone users. That's pretty dodgy right there. And many polls cite "likely" voters.
My gut feeling is that we have no idea about who these "likely" voters are this fall.
This election is going to be total drama.
