Lawmaker (State Rep. Cohen, D-N.J.) investigated for child porn, sources say
Source: The (Bergen) Record

A prominent New Jersey lawmaker is being investigated for possession of child pornography after the Attorney General’s office seized a state-issued computer from his legislative office, six sources confirmed Thursday.

Democratic Assemblyman Neil Cohen, who sponsored a bill that created a computer hot line to report child pornography in 2001, was hospitalized and was put under psychiatric care after the search of his Union Township office Wednesday, several sources said.

Sen. Ray Lesniak and Assemblyman Joseph Cryan, who share the office with Cohen, alerted state legislative officials after workers there discovered the material on the computer, sources said. The investigation is limited to Cohen, said the sources, who asked not to be identified due to the ongoing investigation.

“As the facts became apparent in our office, we notified the appropriate agency and will continue to assist in any way possible. While it was our proactive steps that led the investigation to this point, we are appalled at what has transpired,” Lesniak and Cryan said in a joint statement released Thursday night after The Record’s Web site first reported the investigation.

1. Hey, that's my area ---
Actually did some campaigning for Cohen long, long ago --

My first instinct is why in the hell would he put this stuff on an office computer ---

Remember INHOFE had so much child porn on his computers in Congress that they had to

move to get rid of it all --- ???

but . . . then I think that a lot of wives are finding this porn at home on the computer ---

and that may be why ???

If this has actually happened . . . ???

2. This is truly a strange phenomenon. If the allegations are true.
The psychological aspects of creating something opposite to what is personally enjoyed (child hotline to report the enjoyed child porn). Why turn others in then? Because you see your own flaws in others, so you seek to restrict them, but inwardly hope that you don't get caught? If so, That is the essence of hypocrisy.

3.  . . . there's also the aspect that evidently "child" porn can kinda creep into
Edited on Thu Jul-24-08 10:59 PM by defendandprotect
"regular" porn and they plan it that way . . . to lure people to child porn.

In fact, it may simply be someone of age who just looks younger and it's used to
turn people onto child porn.

I don't know Cohen personally . . .

there are lots of ways to think about this . . . maybe someone thinks that in fighting
child pornography with a hot line -- that they'd be controlling themselves??????

You know, like people in denial of their sexuality --- ???
Homosexuals who think they can be made hetero???

I think we also have to figure out what this really is --- a disease?

Does anyone remember the INHOFE thing . . . ????

But, I'm glad we have no questions about how they found out about it ---

Dems themselves turned him in ---

good!

4. there's also the aspect that state computers are imminently hackable
from various points in the system. so if you want to ruin someone's career, that's one way. the public hears "child porn" & that's all she wrote.

i don't quite buy the supposed legions of secret pedophiles hype.

6. I always think people should be careful before condemning in
these cases..Democrat or Republican. I believe this could be one of the easiest crimes to set someone up with. Keep an open mind for now. Innocent unless proven guilty.

7. Very sad
It shouldn't matter, Democrat or Republican, if he has a sickness -- although it certainly seems as if Republicans dominate this field:
