Obama, Hillary Clinton to campaign together
Source: Associated Press

CHICAGO - Democratic presidential hopeful Barack Obama's campaign announced Friday that he will campaign with former rival Hillary Rodham Clinton next week, a step toward unifying a fractured Democratic Party after a bruising primary fight.

Obama's campaign said in a brief e-mail that said the two senators and former opponents will campaign together for the first time on Friday, June 27, and more details would be forthcoming.

A day earlier, Obama and Clinton also plan to meet in Washington with some of her top contributors in an effort to calm donors who remain frustrated with Obama's presidential campaign. The former first lady will introduce Obama to her financial backers.

4. Yes, I remember that statement...
... said countless times and yet, even Clinton knows that the most important thing is for the Democrats to capture the WH no matter WHO the Dem Nom is. Shame that so many of her supporters lost sight of that in the Primaries.

Glad she's working her ass off to ensure a Democrat victory in the GE (wasn't that the GOAL for EVERYONE that claimed to be a Democrat?)

5. I heard that a lot more often from non-Hillary supporters.
Mostly from the ones who claim that Hillary wants Obama to lose or that she would be McCain's running mate.

Or something even crazier.

6. "even"?
Perhaps it would be better for the GE if the insults and innuendos of the primary were completely abandoned, as Skinner instructed. I know I don't want to see another "even."

and magnanimous person who lost despite a grand (and tiring) effort, but who has gone many extra miles to help the Democratic Party win in November...and will continue to do so. (Edited for spelling.)

7. how special ?
How much does Hillary Clinton care about the Democratic Party in 2008 ?

... Later today (20June08) is the reporting deadline for campaign's expenses and receipts for May 2008, and accordingly if Hillary Clinton's campaign files on time (for Hawaii or Guam), after the Saturday papers have been put to bed, tomorrow we will learn just how much in debt her Presidential quest is. Perhaps as little as $20 Million (including $11Million to herself and several million dollars to Mark Penn) or maybe $30 Million? Could be $40Million?

Due to the fine print of Campaign Finance laws, the $23Million raised by Hillary designated for use in the General Election can be used to offset her Primary campaign debts if she gets "permission" from the donors. These letters have already gone out, in addition to rather blunt conference calls by Hillary this week asking her biggest donors to cough up money for Barack Obama's campaign while reminding them that she has debts of her own.

Which begs a question: Why Doesn't Hillary Pay Her Debts Herself ?

Due to more fine print in Campaign Finance laws, Hillary is in a very unique position regarding campaign funding. She can write checks for millions of dollars to pay her campaign debts, whereas everyone else is limited to a couple or few thousand dollars.

For Hillary to pay her own debts to vendors who supplied various amenities to her Primary campaign would make it possible for contributors who would like to assist her, to have thousands of dollars available to support other Democrat's campaigns for local, state, and Federal offices (including Barack Obama's).

In such a unique legal position, a most magnanimous gesture on Hillary's part would go a long way to repairing any damage to her reputation from the Primary season and would cement her presumed/asserted desire to be publicly perceived as a "Unifier" in the Democratic Party. (and if her/their tax returns, made public earlier this year, are accurate, she can afford it)

Being originally from Missouri (pronounced "Missourah") I use the "Show Me" axiom often, especially in regards to Politics and Money. If Hillary is truly concerned about the success of the Democratic Party in 2008, on all levels, then please "SHOW ME".

after all, it's only money.
