They restored The White House when that was burned. But that was a pretty bad fire...:-(

19. Pic of the damage. Part of the building had NO fire sprinklers!! Building a "total loss"

Clopton said the building had a smoke detection system on its first floor that appears to have worked properly, but no such system on the second floor.

The mansion also has no sprinkler system, but one was being installed as part of the renovations, she said.

The Austin Fire Department is calling the Mansion a complete loss.

31. She'd probably not joke about it much. This was Ann Richards's home, too.
I visited it once in the 90s, while Richards was governor, for a birthday party for Ralph Yarborough. Some great Democrats were there; maybe Molly, even.

The house had no partisan allegiance, and very fond memories for Democrats, even if it has been occupied by cattle poop for the last few terms. I imagine Molly shedding a tear.

26. I'm glad the building was apparently vacant, but it's a sad plight for a historic house
If this was arson, the people responsible should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

27. This is sad
The only consolation is that the furnishings were in storage at the time. I hope whatever replaces it will be at least as attractive in a timeless way.
