Obama (Head) Secret Service Agent Tied to Sex (Racist) Joke (yikes)
Edited on Wed May-14-08 10:48 PM by Ichingcarpenter
Source: NY Times

A Secret Service supervisor who until recently was a leader of Senator Barack Obama’s security detail sent several colleagues an e-mail message in 2005 that included a crude sexual joke about blacks and American Indians, according to documents disclosed last week as part of a lawsuit by black Secret Service agents.

The supervisory agent, Victor Erevia, sent the Jan. 26, 2005, e-mail message to five other Secret Service supervisors with what he described as a “joke,” one that referred to “popular myths of sexuality” and ridiculed several racial and religious groups. It appears that Mr. Erevia was not the author of the joke, but shared the message after it had been sent to him.

Eric Zahren, a Secret Service spokesman, said on Wednesday that while the agency did not condone offensive material, the e-mail message was “apparently an attempt at humor” and should be viewed in that context.

At the time of the message, Mr. Erevia was an assistant agent in charge of the agency’s office in Atlanta. Later, he was assigned as one of three “detail leaders” to protect Mr. Obama during his campaign for the Democratic presidential nomination. Mr. Erevia has since been promoted to head the agency’s technical security division.

5. This is the same group that joked about assassinating Jesse Jackson
E-Mail Shows Racial Jokes by Secret Service Supervisors

By DAVID JOHNSTON
Published: May 10, 2008

WASHINGTON — Secret Service supervisors shared crude sexual jokes and engaged in racially derogatory banter about blacks, and passed around an anecdote about a possible assassination of the Rev. Jesse Jackson, according to internal e-mail disclosed in a federal court filing on Friday by lawyers for black Secret Service agents.

The filing includes 10 e-mail messages that were among documents the agency recently turned over to lawyers for the black agents as part of an increasingly bitter discrimination lawsuit. The messages were written mainly from 2003 through 2005, and were sent to and from e-mail accounts of at least 20 Secret Service supervisors.

The messages offer a glimpse into the darker recesses of an agency known for protecting presidents and other dignitaries but whose culture is regarded as one of the most insular in federal law enforcement.

The disclosure of the messages follows an incident last month in which a noose was found in a room used by a black instructor at a Secret Service training facility in Beltsville, Md. Agency officials said that episode was under internal investigation. >>>>snip

20. Jesse Jackson and the SS
Edited on Thu May-15-08 01:07 AM by NBachers
I keep remembering Jesse in his 1984 run for president. I supported him.

The SS has code names they use for candidates they're protecting. In '84, their code name for Jackson was Pontiac.

You know how sometimes people take the letters in a car's name and make a silly saying out of it? Like FORD:

Found
On
Road
Dead (or First On Race Day, if you like Fords)

Guess what PONTIAC's word saying is?

Poor
Old
N*****
Thought
It was
A
Cadillac

Is this coincidence? Hardly. Is it appropriate for Jackson's protective SS detail to refer to him this way?

Then there's the March, 2003 joke that was passed around Secret Service supervisors. It involves an airplane crash; the punch line was that an airplane crash involving Jackson and his wife would be, “neither a great loss nor an accident.”

Listen, my heat's still breaking over the security lapses that led to the death of the Kennedy brothers and Martin Luther King Jr. And the "accidental" plane crash deaths of Paul Wellstone, Mel Carnahan, and John Kennedy Jr. are not punch lines to any jokes I tell. I don't want any new, tragic security "lapses" around Democratic luminaries.

Nobody's trying to hang this around Obama's neck. If there wasn't a legitimate problem of racist behavior in the Secret Service, then the black agents wouldn't be pursuing their discrimination lawsuit. If the Secret Service is compromised, then our candidates are compromised. We can't lose another one. Not now.

27. are you inferring that the SS agents would not do their job because of a JOKE?
Mighty big assertion there. And of course, the SS does not have offensive names for Bush, or any other President they don't care for?

Back off the koolaid. Really.

6. So help me out here:
This guy sent a racist porn joke to his chums 2-3 years prior to ever being assigned to or even meeting Senator Obama. Did I get that right?

So exactly what does this have to do with the price of tea in Boston? Will we be seeing this guy on FAUX Noise with a book tour in the near future? Is someone attempting to link this silliness to Senator Obama ala the Rev. Wright thing? Sorry, I just don't get the significance I guess.

on the planet including his SS detail?

:wtf: does Obama have to do with someone ELSE'S attitudes OR stupid joke emails they send to their buds? He has NO CONTROL over anyone else's attitudes.

Jesus on a fucking STICK, I wish people would stop PROJECTING the blame for every damn thing every person under the sun says or does or thinks or writes or emails onto OBAMA.

All those yahoos out there who mock Obama supporters by claiming WE think Obama is "the Messiah" are ALSO projecting. It appears that WE aren't the ones who deem Obama a Messiah - THEY do - since they apparently think Obama is somehow responsible for and IN CONTROL OF (or SHOULD BE in control of) every nasty, racist slur everyone else on the planet makes - Wright's, Hillary's, his SS agents, the Bubbas in WV - all of it - everyone - all OBAMA's fault. It's not Obama supporters who think he's GOD - it's the Obama HATERS/detractors who do, apparently.

Projecting idiot hypocrites.

Obama is "the Messiah", I had seen that posted on the local papers forum recently and just about vomited on my keyboard! It was just blatant dumb shit.

They will reach for anything and everything now and it will only get more absurd; simply out of fear and desperation.

I'd feel much more comfortable if I saw maybe 1 or 2 security guys around Obama, people he can trust, to send a message to the Secret Service that they better do their job this time cause he ain't screwing around. We all should know about the Secret Service stand down on Nov 23, 1963, as caught on camera. http://youtube.com/watch?v=XY02Qkuc_f8

If there is even the slightest chance that Obama's personal security detail is not absolutely ready to behave in the professional manner we expect of ANYONE entrusted with the life of an American President, the agency needs a thorough cleaning out.

24. Hard to know what to think of this without actually knowing the joke
The only one I can think of is pretty harmless--the oldie but goodie about the man and woman talking at a singles bar. She is a sexologist, and she tells him all about her research. They investigate whether sexual stereotypes are true. She informs him that they've measured a lot of penises, and it itsn't true that black men are the largest--it's American Indians. She's also interviewed thoussands of women about which men are most romantically skillful, and it turns out that they aren't French or Italian, but Jewish.

"But, enough about me. What's your name?"

"Oh, my friends all call me Crazy Horse Goldberg."

28. Remember Ronald Reagan's assissination attempt?
The Agent might seek to aprehend after the fact rather than put themselves in the direct line of fire. It could mean the difference of half of a second. Is the type of person you want guarding the most important man in the world?(that is making the big assumption of him getting the nominee and becoming prez.) The SS is too an important of a function to have even the slightest whiff of taint. So if there is any question remove the people in question until the matter can be cleared up. That does not mean removing the people from their status but rather keeping them with an added lay of protection from the presidents proximity.

34. Report: Security relaxed at Obama speech
Published: Feb. 21, 2008 at 6:27 PM

DALLAS, Feb. 21 (UPI) -- The Secret Service told Dallas police to stop screening for weapons while people were still arriving at a campaign rally for Barack Obama, a report said.

Police stopped checking people for weapons at the front gates of Reunion Arena more than an hour before the Democratic presidential hopeful appeared on stage Wednesday, the Fort Worth (Texas) Star-Telegram reported.

Police said the order to stop using metal detectors and checking purses and laptop bags constituted a security lapse, the newspaper reported.

Dallas Deputy Police Chief T.W. Lawrence -- who heads the department's homeland security and special operations divisions -- told the Star-Telegram the order had been intended to speed up seating of the more than 17,000 people who came to hear the candidate speak.

Police concerned about order to stop weapons screening at Obama rally

BY JACK DOUGLAS JR.
STAR-TELEGRAM STAFF WRITER

DALLAS -- Security details at Barack Obama's rally Wednesday stopped screening people for weapons at the front gates more than an hour before the Democratic presidential candidate took the stage at Reunion Arena.

The order to put down the metal detectors and stop checking purses and laptop bags came as a surprise to several Dallas police officers who said they believed it was a lapse in security.

Dallas Deputy Police Chief T.W. Lawrence, head of the Police Department's homeland security and special operations divisions, said the order -- apparently made by the U.S. Secret Service -- was meant to speed up the long lines outside and fill the arena's vacant seats before Obama came on.
