Clinton will stay in race, senior advisers say

Senior advisers to Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.) said Wednesday that she would continue to fight for the Democratic nomination despite losing ground to Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) Tuesday in the race for delegates.

Howard Wolfson, Clinton’s campaign communications director, said there has been no discussion within the campaign about dropping out.

He said that the West Virginia primary scheduled for May 13 would be a critical test and that Clinton expected to do well there.

Clinton’s chief campaign strategist Geoff Garin said Clinton made up ground against Obama in Indiana and North Carolina and among white voters.

I'm inclined to believe that this is mostly posturing to keep things going (and cash rolling in) while a negotiated ending can be worked out with the Obama cmapaign, rather than a threat of a fruitless "tilting at windmills" effort until the bitter end.

In fact, she has to win ALL SIX of the remaining contests with 86% of the vote to catch Obama. 60-75% of WV and KY may give her headlines, but if Obama gets as little as 30%, she doesn't pick up any ground.

But, I'm certain that neither Hillary nor Obama can win in November without the support of the other candidate's voters. Isn't it time for supporters of both candidates to end the jibes at one candidate or the other?

We know who has won, who will win, and we all want that person to lead the Democrats into the White House in November.

John McCain is not an option. He is not the kind of principled leader that our nation needs. He does not understand economics. He is just repeating what he has been told with regard to economics.

It's time to gather ourselves together, lick our wounds and get on with the enormous task of winning in November. We have a lot of work to do, and we are going to need every single Democrat working together to get it done. It's time ot end this backbiting and nastiness. If you can't cooperate, take a time out. Sit in your corner for a while and think about how great our country will be with a Democrat in the White House.
