Drug bust nets 96 at San Diego State
Source: CNN.com

Authorities have arrested nearly 100 people and seized guns and drugs in a sting operation at San Diego State University in California, the Drug Enforcement Administration said Tuesday.

Among those arrested were 75 students, some of them working toward criminal justice or homeland security degrees. One criminal justice major was charged with possession of guns and cocaine, authorities said.

One student sent a mass text message offering a "sale" on cocaine, the DEA said in a news release.

One student allegedly dealing cocaine was a month short of obtaining a master's degree in Homeland Security and worked with campus police as a student community service officer.

Why don't I think have a couple of cocaine busts will keep these smart people from joining up with Homeland Security or one of our 'intelligence' agencies?

I guess I don't have much faith in America any more.

type courses. Similar to specialized Post Graduate training paid for by the military or some other government departments to enhance the typical education to the job the person is actually doing. The "kid" was probably interning for a senior management job at DHS.

49. As a student at SDSU
As a student @ SDSU I can tell you that this is really just a bunch of chest thumping for our campus police. What a load of BS. My personal feelings on the whole "drug war" aside....we recently had a student raped in one of our parking structures, every week cars are broken into on campus, every month cars are stolen! I can't help but wonder if the energy they put into this whole "bust" could have been better spent. Granted--I don't think selling cocaine is a good thing or using it--but they were also busting people for possession of marijuana, which should be 100 percent legal.

What a waste.

55. agreed
It's sad when these kids will get felony and 2+ years whereas much worse crimes go unpunished.

53. greek system just one of many University sacred cows
Edited on Thu May-08-08 06:32 PM by barnel
other sacred cows:

the 4 year degree: what other good or service is sold in such an arbitrary unit? sociology and electrical engineering, both take 4 years, what a freaking coincidence!

i conducted training as a consultant. you know how many days i was allowed to train someone? one month tops, usually far less - the number of days it took to do the job, not one hour more

how many trainees was i allowed to 'fail', or consider not good enough to do the job? --> 0

sure, there was some pre-selection in the trainees, but failure was MY failure, not theirs, and when i was done with them they were expected to be able to perform the role immiediatly, in complex roles such as manufacturing systems analyst, imaging manager, trading systems programmer

but then, I had clients, not students

a huge difference in the attitude of the person doing the training
