Bomb attacks in central Iraqi towns killed five American soldiers and four Iraqis on Saturday, a day after two U.N. security experts arrived in the capital to study the possible return of the world body's international staff.

The deadliest attack took place in Khaldiyah, west of the capital, where a four-wheel-drive vehicle rigged with explosives drove up to a U.S. checkpoint at a bridge and detonated, a witness said. The U.S. military said three American soldiers were killed in the attack. Six soldiers and several Iraqi civilians were wounded, the military said.

About 20 miles away, near the town of Fallujah, a roadside bomb went off as a U.S. convoy passed, killing two soldiers.

The latest deaths brought to 512 the number of American service members who have died since the United States and its allies launched the Iraq war March 20.

5. CNNI is saying 7 dead in the last 24 hours
There are so many attacks coming at once, perhaps even the media is confused.

10. "BRING EM ON", cried the AWOL CHIMPANZEE
and "BRING IT ON", the Resistance did.

"OH MY GOD"' cried the NEW Gold Star Mother--"My Son is DEAD".

"He died for Halliburton", reflected the Wall Street stock trader.

"He died for NOTHING", grumbled the disabled Viet-Nam vet.

"Where's our car", asked the little girl whose father was killed.

"It was repossessed by the Bank", sobbed her mother.

"The President cut our survivor's benefits". she cried.

"Get in Step YOU MAGGOTS", shouted the drill Sergeant.

"You have some RAGHEADS to kill"

"Where have all the flowers Gone?"
"Where have all the soldiers gone?"
"Gone to graveyards every one"
"When will they ever learn?"

Wept Saigon on a cold Saturday night in Green Bay Wisconsin.

Rest in Peace men and women.

2. Is it just me or does it seem like things are getting worse?
I really fear for those rotating troops. Doesn't that mean there will be large groups of them loading in and out? Those Chinooks better watch out.

6. Today's Stripes headline--Commanders: Iraq insurgency declines
"But they urge continued caution, fearing upswing"

You don't say.

"The enemy doesn't have much left. They are desperate and flailing."
US battalion commander in Tikrit

Keep in mind, General Washington's troops didn't have much left at Valley Forge as they "flailed about" for their survival, and look what happened to them.

The unit rotation is happening now, w/the medical units being rotated first. The bulk of the group will come in February...250,000 rotating either in or out.

8. Commanders rotating in say they are "prepared"
but they have stated publicly that the Iraqis know full well of this rotation and will be waiting for them.

If attacks increase, and the media doesn't say why, it will be because of entire divisions being out in the open as they cross the desert with their equipment to their posts. Such a large movement hasn't been attempted since WWII. We'll soon find out whether it was a good idea or not.

4. Considering how they outnumber us 200:1, that's a grim tradeoff...
We'd better be doing a lot better than that with an eighth of a million troops in a country with 25 million people...

It's all just fine...just fine. There's no global warming. Of course there's a god. Defecits are fine. The economy's improving. They hate us for our freedoms. Of course I love you, the check's in the mail, and I promise not to...
