Iowa superdelegate to endorse Obama

Winthrop farmer Richard Machacek, an Iowa superdelegate, said today he is pledging to support Illinois Sen. Barack Obama. Machacek, a member of the Democratic National Committee, had been uncommitted. He said he saw little difference between Obama and New York Sen. Hillary Clinton on policy positions or ability.

"I think it needs to be over, and in good conscience, I can't fly in the face of my precinct, county and district," Machacek told The Des Moines Register in a telephone interview. "The raw numbers coming out of the district conventions really sat me down hard."

In Iowa, Machacek joins Gov. Chet Culver, Treasurer Michael Fitzgerald, U.S. Rep. Dave Loebsack and deputy state party Chairwoman Sarah Swisher in backing Obama. Supporting Clinton are U.S. Rep. Leonard Boswell, Iowa Senate Majority Leader Mike Gronstal and DNC member Sandy Opstvedt of Story City. Three remained uncommitted: U.S. Rep. Bruce Braley, state party Chairman Scott Brennan and Sen. Tom Harkin. The 12th superdelegate will be elected at the state Democratic convention in June, when the remainder of Iowa's 57 pledged delegates will also be chosen.

He is doing no such thing. The media is attacking, with venom, whoever they imagine to be the democratic frontrunner. When it was Hillary they imagined in front, they went after her harder. When Obama had momentum, they began to focus on him. If you can stomach it, pay attention the Faux News anchors. They are practically singing Hillary's praises these days. "She's like Rocky!" "What a tough customer!" "You have to love her fight!" This is all an act. They just want this nomination to drag on as long as possible so they will give the perceived longshot the darling treatment. If they though Hillary had this thing in the bag rather then Obama? You'd be hearing the opposite.

I don't know what judgement you're speaking about. Do you mean going to the Trinity Church? For whatever reason, the Clintons thought enough of Wright to bring him to the Whitehouse.

I guess this media includes MSNBC and CNN? They were giving this pretty much about the same airtime as any other Faux network. Also the reason why now Obama is "outraged" and "angered" by the comments of Mr. Wright - "Outraged" that this finally paints Obama as an opportunist politician than an "above-it-all leader"...

All anyone has on Obama is the "guilt by association" angle so they play it up and make it big news. Do you imagine that there's ever been, in the history of this country, a black man who didn't grow up among some friends, relatives, and fellow church-goers who weren't bitter and little bit over the top about their rhetoric regarding the sin that was slavery in this country? If you think that's true, then you have no real black friends. And if you think think that means that anyone who claimed "friend" to anyone like this should not be allowed to run for political office, then all you're saying is "a black man cannot run for political office unless he grew up among all white people."

The fact that you get your race relations news, jargon, and slants from Republican talking points should be troubling to you, but it's not. You gladly sing their praises. "Aren't they going against the will of the voters?" ...and yet they've been preaching that the SDs are suppose to "vote their conscious" and "vote for the best candidate no matter what" for months. I wish they'd all do this -- whether they'd have to vote for Clinton or Obama (That includes Ted Kennedy and John Kerry).

If you're a mayor and have SD status and Obama wins your city -- you vote Obama (I don't know if they mayor of Philly is a SD. But if he has any integrity he should vote for Obama). Congressman -- your district.
