(FUCK YOU FEC!!) Corporate Donations OKed for Conventions
http://www.guardian.co.uk/uslatest/story/0,1282,-2947868,00.html

WASHINGTON (AP) - Federal election regulators
decided Thursday to allow corporations and
unions to continue making large contributions to
finance the two political parties' presidential
nominating conventions despite a new law
outlawing such donations in elections.

The Federal Election Commission unanimously
ruled that the law passed by Congress last year
did not apply to fund raising by the local
committees in the host cities that help the parties
stage the nominating conventions.

Democrats are meeting in Boston next year;
Republicans are holding their convention in New
York City.

FEC Chairwoman Ellen Weintraub said Congress
did not mention the conventions in the campaign
finance law it sent to President Bush for his
signature. She likened corporate contributions to
the conventions to corporate sponsorships of
sporting events such as the Super Bowl.

1. As John McCain said...
They should disband the FEC. It's a waste of taxpayers money.

2. Doesn't APPLY??
How can it not APPLY, that's what it was WRITTEN for!! Not that I for one hot minute thought they wouldn't find a way around it, mind you, but I guess I'm just still shocked at the crassness with which rules and laws are currently being tossed aside...silly me...

:WTF:

3. I just don't understand the way their minds work
So, the FEC chairwoman says this:

She likened corporate contributions to the conventions to corporate sponsorships of sporting events such as the Super Bowl.

...and finds nothing wrong with that.

Corporations sponsor sporting events for the advertising, right?

What the parties are going to spend the money on isn't nicer party hats and more coffee for the delegates. It's going to go toward marketing the conventions, which have become two big campaign ads for the parties.

4. Total corruption. It's treason against the American citizen and our
constitution. Soon a politician and the arean will look like a hockey rink, football stadium and baseball stadium. See how in Australia the Corporate advertisement are burned into the field and put on the uniforms!

There is no political leadership anymore it's all corporate leadership and we all know what kind of whores they are!

5. as if they would dissapoint thier masters
it seems the only people who could limit the control of buisness interests by limiting the contributions, have already been carefully excluded from obtaining these jobs. Then comes the justification factor of a completely unrelated buisness being allowed to do so and that makes this okay. Another fine example of government being controlled by the people , the people who donate large sums of money.

12. Not likely, but I wonder about the effect if the Dems did forgo
corporate money. It would certainly show where bushits support is coming from!

10. FEC Finds Loophole For Conventions - CBS
FEC Chairwoman Ellen Weintraub said Congress did not mention the conventions in the campaign finance law it sent to President Bush for his signature. She likened corporate contributions to the conventions to corporate sponsorships of sporting events such as the Super Bowl.

"Businesses contribute because they want the promotional benefit," Weintraub said, adding she didn't view the convention fund raising as partisan.
