Prosecutors refuse rehab deal for Limbaugh, insist on guilty plea
Edited on Fri Jan-23-04 07:10 PM by LiberalFighter
Source: South Florida Sun-Sentinel January 23 2004
Palm Beach County prosecutors rejected an overture last month from Rush Limbaugh's attorneys that would have allowed the conservative commentator to enter drug rehabilitation rather than face criminal charges for prescription drug abuse.

Prosecutors say they think they have evidence that Limbaugh committed at least 10 felonies by illegally obtaining overlapping drug prescriptions, according to documents released to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel on Thursday.

They offered to end the investigation if Limbaugh pleaded guilty to a single felony for "doctor shopping" and agreed to a three-year term of probation, a deal that Limbaugh's Miami attorney Roy Black called "preposterous" on Thursday.

GO FOR IT -- PUT LIMBAUGH IN THE SLAMMER!!!

Edited on Fri Jan-23-04 07:15 PM by rchsod
if you go to trial and lose, you are fuck`d. he`s been offered a sweet deal- no felony charge if the limpballs completes all the requirements of the sentence, he`s not going to get a better deal.

3. flush rush
Sounds like Rushbo's atty made a bad choice. The investigation will go on. They are probably hoping Jeb will 'FIX' things for them.

11. The arrogance of the rich
....says that nothing they can afford could possibly be illegal, and that the laws the lock the poor up should never be applied to them.

I'm sure Lamebawl, when he heard about that deal, only heard "random urine drug tests" during that 3 year period and freaked! I'd be very surprised to find out he's still clean. I think he probably started using again as soon as he got home. I'm sure his lawyer know this is the best deal he could possibly get, with a clean record after 3 years of reporting to a P.O. and was just grandstanding for the cameras.

This is going to be very fun to watch.

17. That's probably the reason: the urine tests
He'd actually have to kick his habit.

27. I've listened to him for 20+/- minutes a week
for awhile. There are times when he is Joansin to such a degree that callers are mentioning it (SLAMMING FISTS ON DESK, RAMBLING INCESSANTLY....). He probably only has a moderate stash left. Given his 1,000 pills in 2-3 mo habit - it's gotta hurt!

19. Guess they don't need the bank law violations either
remember the 30 to 40 cash withdrawals just under $10,000.00 - violation of BSA? What happened with that? Conviction would be first degree felony.

6. Third degree felonies can be expunged IIRC...
w/o loss of voting priveleges and the other harsh consequences faced by non-rich-white-repuke users. It's still a sweet deal no matter how you slice it.

9. It's a plea bargain attempt
At least, that's what it will come down to. Limbaugh's attorneys are trying to make this go away as quietly as possible. Why wouldn't they?

Bring it on.

12. In this case I think we should defer
Edited on Fri Jan-23-04 07:35 PM by 9215
to Rush's own views on the subject:

People like Limbaugh should go to jail, says Limbaugh <http://www.fair.org/extra/0311/limbaugh-drugs.html>

There's nothing good about drug use. We know it. It destroys individuals. It destroys families. Drug use destroys societies. Drug use, some might say, is destroying this country. And we have laws against selling drugs, pushing drugs, using drugs, importing drugs. And the laws are good because we know what happens to people in societies and neighborhoods, which become consumed by them. And so if people are violating the law by doing drugs, they ought to be accused and they ought to be convicted and they ought to be sent up.

These tough sentencing laws were instituted for a reason. The American people, including liberals, demanded them. Don't you remember the crack cocaine epidemic? Crack babies and out-of-control murder rates? Liberal judges giving the bad guys slaps on the wrist? Finally we got tough, and the crime rate has been falling ever since, so what's wrong?

16. Fer gawd's sake
They think they have enough evidence for 10 felonies, and are willing to bargain for a plea of guilty to *one* felony for doc shopping, with a penalty of 3 years profuckingbation (instead of jail time), and Limbaugh's attorney(s) are saying no?????

Wow. Just fucking wow. He should take the deal. But there's no telling what them morans are apt to do.

18. If this ends up with him essentially getting away with it...
scot-free, then I think that we should ALL immediately contact our Reps and Senators to file legislation suspending the existing drug laws pending review. This could set a nice precedent that could be used by much more deserving people. Time served, folks, see ya!

34. There must be more to this
His lawyer can't be crazy enough to turn down a sweet deal like that. Maybe Rush has some kind of performance clause in his big paycheque that says he forfeits lots of money if admits to a criminal activity.
