Georgia posts big jump in mass layoff jobless claims
Georgia posted the nations second-largest increase in jobless claims due to large-scale layoffs, according to a Bureau of Labor Statistics report released Thursday.

In 2003, mass layoffs produced 7,121 more jobless claims in Georgia than those caused in 2002 by such large-scale layoffs.

Only the state of New York, which had 8,005 more claims from laid-off workers than in 2002, had a larger increase than Georgia.

Maybe, as the good DR. DEAN said, they should stop voting based on God, Guns, and Gays!

2. I'm in Georgia and getting laid off......
however, I am not very worried about getting another job. The economy
here in Atlanta has really picked up over the last few months and
should continue to improve in 2004. Rayovac, the big battery maker,
is moving their headquarters to Atlanta in a few more months from
Wisconsin, and Newell Rubbermaid is building a big corporate campus
here and will relocate their headquarters also.

I'm also not very worried because my severance package will be approximately 55 weeks of pay and the company is going to pay for
one year of my health insurance for FREE after my employment ends.

5. Never said it was all about me Skits
Hot off the presses just a few hours ago:

GEORGIA UNEMPLOYMENT DROPS SLIGHTLY TO 4 PERCENT

The employment picture in Georgia is very good, and in metro Atlanta it
is excellent! I was just using myself as an example and for good reason: I live in Atlanta and I am getting laid off and that directly pertains to the original subject of this thread. The majority of the people who were laid off in Georgia last year were laid off by companies like Coca-Cola and BellSouth and those companies have excellent severance packages for all employees.

7. READ THE WHOLE ARTICLE
the gains are VERY MODEST and then there's this disclaimer

-He added that a higher job creation rate is needed to sustain a solid recovery and urged President Bush and Congress to extend unemployment benefits for many long-term jobless workers.-

Neither one of these is going to happen under our piece of shit "president".

6. Why are you "stuck"?
No life isn't grand without a job when you need one, but is the
job situation that bleak in your part of Illinois?
