...since, so far, that's Nova M's only programming. And, with all due respect, carrying one program a day does not a real "affiliate" make.

(I called KPTK, and asked them to bring Randi back. The receptionist demurred, saying that they have to see where she lands first. I told her that Nova M had just put out a press release announcing Randi had joined their organization. She said that they hadn't heard that yet, but she'd let management know. We shall see.)

I assume that WCPT AM Chicago will switch their afternoon slot to stick with Randi Rhodes. She's a proven performer in the radio business. I like Sam Seeder, however, he doesn't deliver the ratings. He was much better as the straight man in the Garafalo/Seeder pairing.

I'm not a fan of her talk show but I really like and respect her as a person. AAR treated her badly. I don't think it's just the suspension; there's probably some bad undercurrents going on because Randi occasionally hinted at it. I guess they saw a chance to get rid of her and put her in an impossible situation where she had no choice but quit. Of course, they're now spinning it as "she walked away from us".. I don't listen to Malloy because he comes on late in the day when I need to feel peaceful, not get all worked up and mad. But I adore Mike and Kathy, and now that I'm a subscriber, i can listen to his archive!

of the same reasons she used to mention on the air that she disliked the city.

(Also, I think their "coverage" area is generous at best -- anything outside the red line goes somewhere between "fringe" and "nonexistent" from 7 P.M. to 7 A.M. -- they actually get drowned out by a sports station broadcasting from Tijuana during those times!)

I heard that her old station in West Palm picked her right back up. I actually think her AAR contract said that she could move her show back to West Palm if AAR didn't work out. She still has her house there and her kid is there too.

I hope Randi will be happier there.

As disappointed as I am by Air America's swing, I think diversity is great. The ideal solution is to have more than one progressive station in a town, or a progressive station and another that will air the competition. Wouldn't it be great to choose between Ed Schultz and Thomm Hartman on the radio dial.

This is radio. This is syndication. This is buffet. The vertical network model didn't work.

I like BOTH Thom Hartmann and Ed Shultz... please don't make me choose!

It is indeed a spreading out of the wealth imo. The more progressive options the better! I believe that we are about to experience a renaissance of Prog-media. Advertisers, (read '$$'), are quite aware that the nation is taking a big turn back to the left. This is why Jon Stewert is no longer the lone progressive on MSM... this is why both Rachel Maddow and Ed Shultz are getting more and more air time....well that's what I think at any rate.

Although I'm currently pissed at the Greens over Malloy and Rhodes, I acknowledge that having several progressive syndicators can only be good for our cause. I'd be quite happy to have Nova M, Jones, and AAR all go on to success.

You could have a just a general talk station that needs a host to round out their lineup. So you could have a progressive station in a town and then another station running a progressive competitor in a time slot. This is good.

Overall, I think Ed Schultz's reformed Archie Bunker persona is good for progressivism. He will reach a lot of folks that Thom Hartmann would turn off. But I really do wish that Thomm Hartmann was on in HIS TIME SLOT in my market.

In Chicago you could probably find 2-3 conservative voices simultaneously. I think this is what we need on the left.

Beyond this, I think the success of the genre will cause traditional radio syndicators like Westwood One to perhaps start picking up progressive hosts.

I wonder if Bill O'Reilly will start whipping on Nova-M now that the uber-liberals have moved over thre.

I checked Internic earlier today - and there was a change made at 10:40 am.

My thought is that she owns the domain name (and, why wouldn't she? It's her name and her show - regardless of what network airs it.) and it will be hosted on the NovaM servers soon.

Then Rachel Maddow will get grabbed up by MSNBC (think she has any loyalty to the company that forced Kent Jones off the air?), and that'll leave AAR with LIONEL as their #1 star.

It was either last night or the previous night he was mentioning AAR. Didn't out and out slam them, but there weren't really kind words towards them either.

Maron is very open about all the money AAR never paid him when they went bankrupt, AND he was screwed out of a late night slot he was promised, AND he actually was offered the mid-morning slot before Lionel. He's got nothing but venom towards AAR and would love to see them ground into the dust, I'm pretty sure.

about what happened at AAR, the fact that many rich"progressives" would not bankroll AAR, the shameful treatment of him at the hands of AAR execs, the firing of John Manzo, who was trying to save the network, and many other stories. NovaM rulez, AAR droolz!

They offered him the morning slot a second time ... AFTER they pulled the plug on the Marc Maron Show (evening boradcast after he moved back to CA) and he turned them down.

"Race to the White House" as Rachel's first hour starting Monday (since Rachel is signed on full time for that show).

The cost would be too much for just the Thom Hartmann Show. Those were the only two I cared about at all. Too bad AAR has to charge for people to listen to the shows. I bet the Rush Limbaugh podcast is free.

Randi has great ratings and "AAR" stations, which are not owned by Air America will pick up her show.

Hopefully one day I'll be able to listen to her again after she gets the anti-Hillary bug out of her ass.

Though they might have to grow to two channels to fit in all of their daytime hosts. Though I wouldn't complain. Still hoping that the merger of XM and Sirius also doesn't chop them down collectively to one channel, which would make the available slots that much worse.

but since they're supposedly merging, it shouldn't be an issue. XM carries Mike Malloy so hopefully it/they will do the same with Randi. Since she has the listenership, they'd be fools not to carry her.

I think now might be the time to lobby either Sirius or XM to get an extra left talk channel (though perhaps it might be hard unless we can show "numbers" someplace). However, here's at least a "dream scenario" set of pages. I still haven't finished filling in a lot of the stuff for the Saturday and Sunday lineups and even the weekday stuff perhaps could use some work. You can see what might be ways to suggest if the content arms are kept separate or if they are merged. It would nice to not be "losing" content and instead "gaining it.

There's not much left at AAR for there to even be an AAR. Their only significant left-of-center daily shows are Hartmann and Maddow, so I don't see how they can make much cash from that lineup.

I miss listening to her in my car, but I'm glad she left AAR. Unfortunately for me, I'll have to listen via the internet for now. NovaM doesn't have an NYC affiliate (yet) and I really can't afford Sirius at the moment. Oh well ... I'll deal with it. I am THRILLED for her!

Did that when Nova M picked up Mike Malloy. Still got Randi and still get Thom Hartman. And, I get Jeff Farias and Mike. Rachel Maddow is at 9-midnight Mountain Time. Really a good feed. Never have had any problems and it works with Real Player, so I can pause.

I am so glad to hear that Randi will be coming to Nova M. I signed up as a founder when Malloy joined up with them. For ten bucks a month, it's worth it to hear actual intelligent radio. Heck, it's a bargain for twice the price!
I hope that everyone will sign up and become a Nova M Founder. They deserve it, and more.

I just hope Sam Seder doesn't end up getting screwed in all this. He deserves his own full time show.

I got it ONLY to get reliable AAR (KPOJ internet radio sometimes had problems). After Al Franken left, Randi and Thom Hartmann were my only use of that XM radio. I see mention on this thread that Nova M is also on XM, but I can't find it. Can anyone here help?

weekdays from 10 p.m. to midnight on the AAR channel (167). As far as I know, that's it. I suspect Randi will continue to be carried by XM, though maybe not in the same time slot she had before (3-6). Jeez, remember when her show was 4 hours long? Don't know how she did it for 4 hours. They do decide who is going to be on when though -- they bumped Thom Hartmann from the AAR schedule slot (Franken's old time slot) for Ed Schultz.

I knew the first time I saw Mark Green on Tweety's show that Randi didn't belong with those seemingly DLC "progressives."

Hopefully Sam Seder and Rachael Maddow can find "a home" on the Television News networks. They, IMO, are perfect for their OWN show.
