Philadelphia: Man Holding Woman and Baby Hostage On Walt Whitman Bridge
Source: Digital Journal

The Walt Whitman Bridge has been closed while a man with a gun is threatening to harm an infant. Police are at the scene trying to reason with the man. The man is in a white Cadillac Escalade.

UPDATE
At this time the man remains inside his vehicle with the police a short distance away. Further reports say that a woman is also in the SUV. It is on the New Jersey side of the bridge. The driver has both a gun and a baseball bat.

The police had tried to stop the man for a traffic violation. The man has threatened to jump off the bridge with the baby.

There is a large line of traffic being held back while the situation is being taken care of.

Traffic in both directions has been blocked.

State police say the driver got out of the car and smashed the windows. A woman was reported to be in the car with the male during the initial chase but now is no longer in the vehicle.

There are reports he has a baby with him and he's believed to be armed.

Walt Whitman Bridge Standoff

Authorities took a man into custody on the Walt Whitman Bridge Thursday evening, ending a three-hour standoff that closed the bridge connecting Philadelphia and New Jersey at the height of the evening rush hour.
A woman and small child inside the white SUV with the man, whom
authorities said had a gun and a baseball bat, were unharmed. A toy gun and the bat were recovered from the SUV, said State Police Sgt. Steven Jones.
SKYFOX footage of the standoff showed a white Cadillac Escalade with its rear hazard lights flashing at a standstill in the middle of the Walt Whitman Bridge.
