Siegelman lawyers say judge made errors

By Bob Johnson
The Associated Press

Attorneys for former Gov. Don Siegelman said a federal judge made numerous errors when he refused to release Siegelman from prison while he appeals his conviction in a government corruption case. The attorneys filed a new motion Tuesday asking the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals to order Siegelman released on an appeal bond.

They said there was substantial reason to believe he would prevail on appeal, partly because there was no "quid pro quo" in the actions that led to his bribery conviction. The filing also argued that the charges were brought too late.

The filing by Siegelman's lawyers was in response to a January order in which U.S. District Judge Mark Fuller detailed his reasons for refusing to allow Siegelman to remain free on bond while his conviction is being appealed. "Our beloved governor needs to be out until they hear his appeal. He's still serving time for what we believe was no crime," said Vince Kilborn, an attorney for Siegelman.

The motion by Siegelman's attorneys Tuesday was in response to Fuller's order in January. In that order Fuller said Siegelman had not proven that he has a substantial chance of winning his case on appeal.

1. If his lawyers cannot win this thing on appeal...
Then they need to make a bonfire out of their law degrees and bar licences, piss on coals, call in the dogs and roll on over the horizon.

Dem leaders, and the heartless, soulless, chicken shit national investigative (puke) media have to know this is sick and wrong. But the man is still in jail. Certain people, and they do know who they are, better hope they live forever because they are going straight to hell when they die.

7. 6 Central, 7 Eastern, unless preceeded by sports.
If CBS has some sports event on prior to 60 Minutes it'll be delayed until that's over.

5. Going To Be.....
.... LOTS of Alabama repubs and rightwing pols going to jail for what they've done to this judge. Closest thing we have to a third world government in the U.S. has to be Alabama.

6. Is there anything a working class guy can do to help?
The more I learn about Gov. Siegelman's situation, the more I wish, within my more limited financial resources, to do something to help. Obviously writing to the President to ask for clemency will not work, but there has to be something.

8. You can write to Don Siegelman:

FPC P. O. Box 5010
Oakdale, La 71463

I hear he's been pretty down lately.
Coincidently he's 'celebrating' his 62nd birthday today in the Oakdale prison.
:-(
