19 - Paul Hardcastle
In 1965 Vietnam seemed like just another foreign war, but it wasn't. It was different in many ways, as so were those that did the fighting. In World War II the average age of the combat soldier was 26... In Vietnam he was 19. In inininininin Vietnam he was 19.
(TV announcer's voice) The shooting and fighting of the past two weeks continued today 25 miles west of Saigon I really wasn't sure what was going on (Vet's Voice)
Nininini Nineteen, 19, Ni-nineteen 19 19,19,19,19
In Vietnam the combat soldier typically served a twelve month tour of duty but was exposed to hostile fire almost everyday Ninininininininininin 19 nininininninin 19
Hundreds of Thousands of men who saw heavy combat in Vietnam were arrested since discharge Their arrest rate is almost twice that of non-veterans of the same age. There are no accurate figures of how many of these men have been incarcerated. But, a Veterans Administration study concludes that the greater of Vets exposure to combat could more likely affect his chances of being arrested or convicted.
This is one legacy of the Vietnam War
(Singing Girls) All those who remember the war They won't forget what they've seen.. Destruction of men in their prime whose average was 19 Dedededededede-Destruction Dedededededede-Destruction War, War Dededede-Destruction, wa-wa-War, wa-War, War Dedededededede-Destruction War, War
After World War II the Men came home together on troop ships, but the Vietnam Vet often arrived home within 48 hours of jungle combat Perhaps the most dramatic difference between World War II and Vietnam was coming home.. .none of them received a hero's welcome None of them received a heroes welcome, none of them, none of them Nenene Nenene None of them, none of them, none of them (etc...) None of them received a hero's welcome None of them received a hero's welcome
According to a Veteran's Administration study Half of the Vietnam combat veterans suffered from what Psychiatrists call Post-Traumatic-Stress-Disorder Many vets complain of alienation, rage, or guilt Some succumb to suicidal thoughts Eight to Ten years after coming home almost eight-hundred-thousand men are still fighting the Vietnam War

(Soldiers Voice) When we came back it was different.. Everybody wants to know "How'd it happened to those guys over there There's gotta be something wrong somewhere We did what we had to do There's gotta be something wrong somewhere People wanted us to be ashamed of what it made us Dad had no idea what he went to fight and he is now All we want to do is come home All we want to do is come home What did we do it for All we want to do is come home Was it worth it?

For as immersed as I was in pop music at that time I somehow totally missed that song. It was unfamiliar when my cribbage pal referenced it a dozen years ago, and I still don't think I've ever heard it.
Even though I was well into classic Beatles-type stuff, Zappa, and other "good" music well before I left high school I still loved to wallow (and still do) in "Rock Me Amadeus" and "New Age Girl".

 |
Bush's approval has ratcheted down for the past 4 years or so, but the media will always come back and say it's around 30%, which is still pathetic.
Why don't the Democrats see that Bush is ripe for impeachment. He and his henchmen must have something over Pelosi, Reid and company.

Btw Nixon didn't quit he was told to go or be made gone, and it wasn't because of poll numbers. Back then there were still Republicans who thought presidents should obey the law.

 |
WHY is it "to their advantage in the polls" not to impeach the Worst President Ever? With a 19% approval rating, what possible political risk could their be for any Congress critter? I just don't buy it...look at Pelosi's approval rating, fer cryin' out loud! NINE PERCENT??? You really have to work at it to have a lower approval rating than the Shrub!
They are being threatened or blackmailed or both--they have to be. The "political calculation" argument just doesn't hold water, if it ever did. If they were REALLY politically calculating, they'd do the right thing and impeach Bush and Cheney--for once, it's the expedient thing as well as the right thing.

he keeps sending me all this horrible right-wing crap emails. You simply won't believe what these people swallow as being true, it's like being in some alternative universe where commonsense never penetrates and talk about bigoted ... their minds are just so base. I might add he's retired military civil servant.
Anyway to keep from getting evicted I play the neutral game and from time to time send him articles that I think might have an impact. The latest was the video clip Kill the Messenger about Sibel Edmonds, the response I got was complete denial, he only saw what he wanted to see and completely rejected it's premise because of "accusations that our government did something wrong". Of course "the government" he's referring to is bush&co. - I tried to explain that "we are the government" and it is only "certain people within" our government that need to answer some questions and that it just was not just one administration but Edmonds has dope on wrong doing going back to 1997.
I haven't heard from him for several days (he usually sends me emails everyday) so I might be looking for a new place to live soon. God forbid he should make a surprise visit (he lives one state away) I have about 20 impeach bumper stickers plastered all over my truck.
Point being there are people that are simply so bambozzled into thinking that America can NEVER do anything wrong that no amount of hard evidence will convince them. Their belief system is so ingrained with who they are that if one is destroyed so is the other one. Bush could rape a baby in the Rose Garden and beat her to death and they'd say he was just playing with a child and disciplined her for crying.

When a candidate for president is chosen by either of the major parties in a normal two-horse race, that candidate can count on getting about 40% of the vote without campaigning. Those are the levels of Goldwater, McGovern and Mondale.
Bush is at half that? Maybe he would never recognize reality if it bit him in the ass, but the rest of us do.

Oddly enough, he sounds like his old man, you know, the one who just heartily endorsed McCain. Back in 1991, he was talking about how the recession was already over. He had also vetoed an emergency unemployment compensation extension for that reason, and had his veto overridden. He was totally out-of-touch, AND he didn't give a shit!

Otherwise it would be 99% approval(remainder 1% being the peons like us). I still see plenty "W" stickers on vehicles here in Louisiana. BTW (need to start a new thread): If you see the "Believe in Louisiana" advertisements which I have seen here at DU and at rawstory, they are a 527 designed to promulgate the Rethug Jindal's agenda. (With the governorship as his mouthpiece he shouldn't need it-right?) But this 527 does not reveal any info on its funding or members-so much for openness and ethics. If you don't know Jindal and think he is some innocent lucky foreigner who became governor, think again. See http://blog.lj4a.com / Jindal is just a Rethuglican tool. And a Bush bootlicker.

That even after the Failure Fuhrer has usurped the title of Worst President Ever, this upcoming election still has the potential to be close.
Anyone who votes for a Republican after 8 years of Reagan and 12 years of Bewshes needs to be kicked dead in the ass with a steel toed BOOT.
Seriously, WHAT is going to wake ANYONE up? Your country and you do shittier and rich people get astoundingly richer when a Republican is in office. If you're a parent of a soldier, the chances are great that he or she will be involved in an unnecessary and tax-dollar wasting conflict in the Middle East. There will be scandal, one that hurts either the taxpayer or the country's morale.
I'm not getting what NO one STILL doesn't understand about this going in. Please, GIVE me a compelling fucking reason to vote Republican after this 20 year nightmare which screwed our country beyond repair.

When the economy goes south, an unpopular president will be even more unpopular.
Bush deserved to be the worse president of USA.
He spent more money in Iraq than in USA.
His war killed more Iraqis than Saddam.
What's that for?
Now the J6Ps finally wake up.
But isn't that already too late?
Welcome to the Bush recession.
