Rice 'Falsely Testified' Today on Pre-War WMD Intel, Says Wexler
Video Shows Heated Exchange Between Congressman and Secretary of State During This Morning's Hearing on Iraq in the U.S. House…

In an incredibly heated exchange today during a U.S. House hearing (video linked below) Rep. Robert Wexler (D-FL) grilled Sec. of State Condoleeza Rice on whether she ever saw pre-war intelligence that countered the administration's claims that Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction in Iraq.

In a statement just released by his office, Wexler says she "falsely testified" in response to his questions...

3. What can you do with a party that thinks that Oliver North is a hero?
It's a badge of courage for them to lie.

6. So what? It's become acceptable practice
to lie to the congress and nothing will come of it. We have seen it happen over and over and over. It is setting a precedent that has become acceptable to the people and to the members of congress. It is all play acting on the part of all involved. Lie to congress--so what?

So what if she lied? She will not be brought to explain and if she is, she will simply refuse to come . Acceptable to congress and they will let it slide.

10. Rice and the aluminum tubes...
http://www.publicintegrity.org/WarCard/Default.aspx?src=project_home&context=key_false_statements&id=946

"On September 8, 2002, Bush administration officials hit the national airwaves to advance the argument that Iraq had acquired aluminum tubes designed to enrich uranium. In an appearance on NBC's Meet the Press, for example, Vice President Dick Cheney flatly stated that Saddam Hussein "now is trying through his illicit procurement network to acquire the equipment he needs to be able to enrich uranium."

Condoleezza Rice, who was then Bush's national security adviser, followed Cheney that night on CNN's Late Edition. In answer to a question from Wolf Blitzer on how close Saddam Hussein's government was to developing a nuclear capability, Rice said: "We do know that he is actively pursuing a nuclear weapon. We do know there have been shipments going into . . . Iraq, for instance, of aluminum tubes that really are only suited to—high-quality aluminum tools that only really suited for nuclear weapons programs, centrifuge programs."

In April 2001, however, the Energy Department had concluded that, "while the gas centrifuge application cannot be ruled out, we assess that the procurement activity more likely supports a different application, such as conventional ordnance production." During the preparation of the September 2002 National Intelligence Estimate, the Energy Department and the State Department's Bureau of Intelligence and Research stated their belief that Iraq intended to use the tubes in a conventional rocket program, but the Central Intelligence Agency's contrary view prevailed.

The Senate Select Committee on Intelligence subsequently concluded that postwar findings supported the assessments of the Energy Department and the Bureau of Intelligence and Research..."

12. Condi is a shill, who in the Bush Administration isn't?
Edited on Wed Feb-13-08 08:51 PM by Deny and Shred
The French told us in summer '01 to consider planes as weapons, there was an attempt to fly one into the Eiffel Tower. It is obvious they picked and chose the limited intelligence that supported the conclusions they wished to draw, the evidence to the contrary be damned. Douglass Feith and his Office of Special Plans (OSP), specifically created to provide a second opinion to the generally accepted intelligence community's opinion that WMD's didn't exist, not to mention the ascendancy of Curveball, are all that are needed to counter Condi's lame excuses. She towed the line. It was her job to vette the info, but, instead she followed orders.
"We had no idea that planes ..." French, and German intel, as well as US intel reporting some mid-east guys want to learn to steer, but not take-off nor land a plane, were all available to her pre 9/11.

I credit the Congressman from FLA for getting her goat, she ought to be defensive 'cause she KNOWS how wrong she was, hence her canned posturing.

As we know, this will go nowhere. Truth, justice, accountability - put them next up there with Tinker bell and the Tooth Fairy.

The next President better go after these guys, unlike Bill. If not, we are asking for the next Reichwinger to finish the job.

I did see Roger, 2 Pei. He should take some outrage lessons from Condi. Welcome.
