(Dem) Activist blames firing on (Senator) McConnell

PADUCAH, Ky. (AP) -- A self-described Democratic political activist from western Kentucky is blaming her firing on fallout from an incident involving Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell.

Heather Ryan says she waited outside her workplace -- Maiden Alley Cinema -- with her 12-year-old daughter last week to ask the Republican senator about the Iraq war and videotape his answer.

Ryan says when McConnell came out, he ignored the questions.

She sent an e-mail to friends and used expletives to describe her efforts to confront McConnell at the Paducah cinema.

Paducah Film Society Board of Directors spokesman Jason Coltharp confirmed Ryan's dismissal, but wouldn't comment on the reason. The film society operates the cinema.

3. I think we need more info....

If McConnell was a customer, and she was harassing him, she should have been fired. If I'd ever harassed a customer/client at one of my jobs (even if, or possibly especially if) I wasn't working at the time, my ass would have been fired fast.

4. Other questions to ask before coming to a judgment

Did she use a company e-mail address in her missive and/or did she represent herself as a representative of the cinema or the board in her e-mail?

Any of those elements would be legitimate grounds for being fired.
