Professor: McGovern's call for impeachment will fuel commentators
Story Published: Jan 7, 2008 at 8:12 PM MST
By The Associated Press

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - University of South Dakota political science professor Bill Richardson says former Senator George McGovern's call for the impeachment of the president and vice president will be fuel for bloggers and political commentators.
The 85-year-old McGovern wrote an opinion piece for Sunday's Washington Post that says President Bush and Vice President Cheney violated the Constitution, committed legal transgressions and lied to the American people. Much of the piece took them to task for the war in Iraq.

Richardson says there's no chance impeachment will occur. He says third-party people often make statements that presidential candidates don't. Then, Richardson says, it becomes fodder for bloggers and radio talk shows, and the mainstream news media often pick it up.

McGovern wrote that there's more supporting evidence for impeaching Bush and Cheney than for impeaching Richard Nixon.

5. Clinton showing cleavage in the Senate was "fuel for bloggers and political commentators..."

Care to throw out some more Earth-shattering prognostications there, Captain Duh?

And that's some hard-hitting, in-depth political reporting there KULR. Seven sentences? In fourth grade, that was considered a paragraph, not an essay or article. I'd get a 'D' if I'd turned that in.

12. Send him McGovern's quote: "Impeachment is unlikely, of course. But we must still urge Congress. . .
Edited on Tue Jan-08-08 04:59 PM by pat_k
. . .to act. Impeachment, quite simply, is the procedure written into the Constitution to deal with presidents who violate the Constitution and the laws of the land. It is also a way to signal to the American people and the world that some of us feel strongly enough about the present drift of our country to support the impeachment of the false prophets who have led us astray. This, I believe, is the rightful course for an American patriot."

Dodd took and oath. It is not an oath to win; it is an oath to fight -- to support and defend.

"Can't win; won't fight" -- it's the ultimate self-defeating prophecy It's the cowardly rationalization behind every single failure to fight for our most treasured principles. Fascists only win when those who purport to be anti-fascists refuse to fight. As long as they irrationally and stubbornly guarantee defeat by refusing to fight, our so-called "leaders" will continue to drive the nation down the path of fascism.

Impeachment will only be "impossible" as long as those who claim to be anti-fascists refuse to do the right thing -- the thing they themselves tell us they "would love to see." If the "can't win; won't fight" people had been saying "must fight; win or lose" then articles of impeachment would have been voted the day Pelosi took up the gavel.
