"At a time when our politics has descended into cynical slash-and-burn character attacks," Burns said, "Barack Obama has steadfastly presented a positive, unironic agenda for this country. When others find themselves mired in the consequences of their past actions and spend their time arguing the past, he is presenting a vision of the future, a vision that is not only possible but essential to our survival as a great nation. "It seems important that as we go forward, we need someone who is authentic, someone who is themselves. I've been attracted from the beginning to (Obama's) authenticity," Burns said. "I fully intended to stay out of this, but I felt as the tone of things changed last week, I felt it was time to step up and say that."
