Princeton Student Admits Faking Attack (Conservative student "attacked for his views")
Source: New York Times

A Princeton University junior who claimed to have been beaten by two men in black ski caps for his conservative views admitted on Monday that he made up the attack, according to Princeton Township police officials.

Francisco Nava, 23, told police that he was attacked on Friday evening, two days after he and three other students belonging to a conservative group, the Anscombe Society, had received threatening e-mail messages, according to the university. The society opposes premarital sex and advocates for a return to more traditional morality in society. A politics professor who serves as an unofficial adviser to the group, Robert P. George, also received e-mail threats.

Mr. Nava initially told police that one of the men approached him a few miles away from campus and asked him to go with him to help someone who was hurt. Mr. Nava said that when he walked toward the man, he was grabbed by a second man and pinned against a brick wall in a field. He said that both men hit him in the face before running away.

But on Monday, when confronted by police officials about inconsistencies in his story, Mr. Nava admitted that he had inflicted scratches and bruises on his own face because of “underlying personal issues” and that he had not received any threatening e-mail messages, said Detective Sgt. Ernie Silagyi, who interviewed Mr. Nava.

"To scam someone by deliberately causing a scene in which you appear to be a victim.

Named after republican activist Phil Parlock, who, with his children, had protest signs ripped up at democratic rallies in 2004, 2000, and 1996 - each time with the same AP photographer positioned to take photos as it happened."

The whole con movement is run by a bunch of parlockers: If you don't have an actual persecutor, just invent one. To hear them talk, you would think middle-aged white Christian guys were the most oppressed group since the Gypsies of medieval Europe.

all those roving gangs of atheist thugs incensed to violence by Richard Dawkins and too much espresso.

Or heterosexual couples out at the movies are brutally attacked by packs of maniacally violent gay men.

22. Because only lying scumbags feel the need to convince everyone that they AREN'T lying scumbags.
Have you ever felt a deep-rooted NEED to make your friends believe
that you DON'T have a meth lab hidden in your basement,
or that you AREN'T a child molester, or that
you -AREN'T- laundering money for some criminal Cartel?

No. Because you aren't doing those things, and so you never
think about them much.

But if you WERE, you'd be thinking about them ALL THE DAMN TIME...
and you'd be pretty concerned with making sure that everyone
around you believed that you WEREN'T doing them.

And if you were anything less than an utter SOCIOPATH, your
"concerns" would fester and grow into an utterly fixated OBSESSION
to convince the entire world that you aren't doing the things you
spend every waking hour thinking about.

Like when they invent obviously bogus emails to send around claiming that the ACLU is trying to prevent the military from using crosses in cemeteries, an outright falsehood. It seems to me that the whole "thou shall not bear false witness" is a pretty important commandment, seeing as it got into the top ten there...

21. Well isn't *THAT* just a fascinating little turn of phrase...
I imagine most folks will read that ONCE, and come away
with the idea that he injured himself as part of some
preconceived anti-liberal fraud...

Read it again- that's not what he said at all:
Mr. Nava admitted that he had inflicted scratches and bruises
on his own face because of “underlying personal issues”

(And, from earlier articles, this was not just some superficial scratching;
students who knew him had commented that they didn't believe he could have
done this to himself, because his face was so damaged as to preclude that possibility.)

This lad has some SERIOUSLY DISTURBING "underlying personal issues".
Rather than seek the sort of REAL HELP that would require him to
both ADMIT and CONFRONT them, he has instead chosen to chew the lotus
of modern "conservative thought".

He believed that if he repeated their cult mantras talking points
often and FERVENTLY enough to convince the world that -HE- actually
believed them, that all his deep-rooted psychological problems
would be washed away in a glorious wave of hive-minded groupthink.

Didn't work. Never does. Dumbass.

That's the thing about "inner demons": bottling them up doesn't CONTAIN them,
it just creates a dark, warm INCUBATOR where they can GROW and REPRODUCE
until they become strong enough to burst forth into the daylight.

And that "bursting forth" generally leaves their HOST in a pile of
steaming shreds on the sidewalk just when he least expected it.

62. Your pics caught my eye.
It seems both had 4 other siblings, both were Methodists, both were college students, and both were born in new england (different states) in the year 1946. One did his killing in the state of Washington while the other does his killing from Washington, DC, although both did dirty deeds in more than those places. If it were of seperate eras they were born in I'd swear one was the reincarnation of the other. If I'd have dug further, who knows?

Edited on Tue Dec-18-07 07:27 AM by JoFerret
Wondering if there were any warning signs in Nava's background? Well...

When he was a student at Groton School in Groton, Mass., Nava said, he had fabricated a threat against himself and his roommate, writing "Die Fags!" outside their door and reporting the message to school officials.

If you haven't been through depression, you don't know what it's like. Read the article. Yes, he filed a false report, and he will receive some sort of punishment for that. He needs help, though.

For some of you, this will be all the evidence you need to know I am secretly a freeper. You'll get over it.

34. And he did the same thing in high school!
...(W)hen confronted by police officials about inconsistencies in his story, Mr. Nava admitted that he had inflicted scratches and bruises on his own face because of “underlying personal issues” and that he had not received any threatening e-mail messages...

...Mr. Nava...admitted...that he had fabricated an earlier threat against himself as a high school student at the Groton School in Massachusetts, from which he graduated in 2002.

“He said he was very distraught, he was unhappy he didn’t have any friends, his father had died and he was having trouble getting along with his mother,” Professor George said...“He wanted to leave Groton, he was suffering depression, and his mother wanted him to finish and he decided to persuade her.”

Maybe there's nothing wrong with him that a good roll in the hay couldn't cure.

44. It really doesn't matter that the attack was fake. The publicity served its purpose
The publicity planted in the minds of all and sundry the idea that conservatives are viciously attacked by nasty liberals just because conservatives express their viewpoints.

Yes the story is false, but so is the story about people spitting on Vietnam vets or the story about Gore saying he invented the internet. Those stories are used to further the conservative cause even though they have been proven to be false.

This fake attack story will be also used by conservatives to further their cause.

45. Interesting
This is what comes of Christians in this nation constantly running around with delusions of being a persecuted minority. A 70%+ persecuted minority. But I should point out that this mentality is very, very dangerous. The occasional outbursts like this, where we have a demented young man out to validate his persecution complex, are actually the less dangerous angle on all of this. Obviously the idiot no doubt presumed his actions were justified because somehow all the anti-christian persecution just wasn't getting enough attention. Either that or the guy was completely without any moral grounding at all.

The fact is this is an angle towards more dangerous behavoir and it it undoubtably fueled by nonsense like "The War on Chrismas" or the various books on modern Christian martyrs. The lack of real martyrs will lead to more and wilder manufactured charges and crazed conspiracies. This could easily lead to scapegoating others.

I really wish there was a better study of propaganda in the late Weimar republic in germany because I would not at all be surprised if there were parallels.

55. Student Who Wrote 'Hoax' Column at Princeton May Get Expelled
A Princeton University student who admitted e-mailing threats to himself and some friends, then faking an attack of himself, expects to be expelled, a friend said Tuesday.

Francisco Nava, a 23-year-old junior from Bedford, Texas, who spoke out for socially conservative causes, created a stir on Friday when he claimed that two men roughed him up off campus.

On Monday, authorities said that the attack -- and the threats that preceded it -- were hoaxes. A university official said the student would be disciplined, but it was not clear how.

He has not been charged with any crimes.

Bet he ends up working in the Repuke party eventually. Sounds like a junior Rove in training, just not half as clever.

60. False terror
The neocons in the Progress party do it here also. Faked threats make you seem bigger and gives you media time, and you can put the blame on the minority you don't like. It is also difficult to catch the fraud as most of the time the threats comes from an anonymous email.
