Pelosi: Republicans 'like' Iraq war
Source: AP

WASHINGTON - House Speaker Nancy Pelosi lashed out at Republicans on Thursday, saying they want the Iraq war to drag on and are ignoring the public's priorities.

"They like this war. They want this war to continue," Pelosi, D-Calif., told reporters. She expressed frustration over Republicans' ability to force majority Democrats to yield ground on taxes, spending, energy, war spending and other matters.

"We thought that they shared the view of so many people in our country that we needed a new direction in Iraq," Pelosi said at her weekly news conference in the Capitol. "But the Republicans have made it very clear that this is not just George Bush's war. This is the war of the Republicans in Congress."

Asked to clarify her remarks, Pelosi backed off a bit.

"I shouldn't say they like the war," she said. "They support the war, the course of action that the president is on."

12. In this particular case, she is the whole congress
By this, I mean that she could unilaterally stop the war, because she determines the House agenda. She could refuse to put any bill on the agenda which does not contain a timeline for withdrawal from Iraq. But no-o. Why not? Because she figures she couldn't stand the heat? You know what Harry Truman said about that: "Get out of the kitchen if you can't stand the heat."

5. Nancy evidently likes it too. She keeps enabling it.
All she has to do to stop the war is to refrain from agendizing any funding for the war without a timeline for withdrawal. But she won't commit to that.

7. I'm sorry,
but in my observation she acts like a weenie. Why does she bother saying anything? When she does it makes her look worse. I still don't know if she's in over her head in this Speaker position, or corrupt. Either way she proves over and over again that she is incapable of making a stand against the Republicans. It's so dis-heartening.

Talk is cheap and my mama told me not to complain when you not willing to do a damn thing about it. Since you don't seem to be able to do anything about it, gal, turn it over to someone who can and most importantly, WILL!!

I know that what I've said isn't PC but as a woman, I'm tired of this broad and the fact that she's a mother and grandmother....yet, talks crap at every turn.

24. what a dissapointment...both as the first female speaker of the house
and as one of our representatives.

She's earned her place in history as a failure and a backbone-less whiner.

For the first time in awhile I agree with Pelosi. It's come as quite a shock, but the Republicans and their dittohead base LOVE these wars and want more. That's why the republicans in congress haven't budged. They must all be contractor employees or something. A new form of welfare - warfare queens.

"Stand by your Spine!" (to the tune of "Stand by your man")

republicans like the thought of war. Some like to actually fight them, but for the most part, they're "yellah".

I wouldn't have the bit least problem seeing all Republicans recruited to replenish our Armed forces. Two problems solved: we have an Army of rabid killers, and 2) we won't have those rabid killers after the conflict

Result: safe and civil nation back home.

When the Republicans are in Control of Congress the Democrats can't stop the war machine ok I get that and so when America elects the Democrats with a mandate to stop the war well then we get the... We can't stop it because the Republicans like it to much?

No Nancy You can stop it you just need to stand your ground.... PERIOD... don't bend thats what makes people leaders if you are on the side of RIGHT you cannot lose...
