Survey: U.S. Jews Back Dem. Candidates
<http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=694&ncid=703&e=5&u=/ap/20040112/ap_on_el_pr/jewish_poll>

snip>>By RACHEL ZOLL, AP Religion Writer

NEW YORK - U.S. Jews would overwhelmingly support any major Democratic candidate over President Bush (news - web sites) if the election were held today, according to the 2004 Annual Survey of American Jewish Opinion.

Joe Lieberman (news - web sites), the only Jewish candidate, would defeat Republican Bush by the largest margin, 71 percent to 24 percent, the poll found.

In one-on-one matchups with the president, Howard Dean (news - web sites), Wesley Clark (news - web sites), John Kerry (news - web sites) and Richard Gephardt would each receive about 60 percent of the Jewish vote, compared to about 30 percent for Bush, according to the survey conducted for the American Jewish Committee and released Monday.

I think this is very good news for the Dems, the Jewish vote is sticking with the Dem party, and I believe they will continue to stick with the Dems no matter who the candidate ends up being.

1. Here are the 3 paragraphs most important to me:
U.S. Jews would overwhelmingly support any major Democratic candidate over President Bush (news - web sites) if the election were held today, according to the 2004 Annual Survey of American Jewish Opinion.

Jews also overwhelmingly oppose government funding for social service programs operated by religious groups, the survey found. Allowing faith-based organizations to compete for such funding is a top Bush initiative.

and

Nearly 70 percent said anti-Semitism was a greater threat to Jewish life in the United States than intermarriage, and said that among U.S. religious groups, Muslims and the "Religious Right" were the most anti-Semitic.

Thank you for the post!!

4. The increase in Bush support due to fear of terrorists is small - only 7%
A bit larger than the increase in Bush support in hispanics.

Since Bush has already started (with the drug bill) his face change for 04 into the "compassionate conservative" from the 24/7/365 employee of the year for corporate and rich that he maintained for the first 3 years, I think this may be the high water mark for him, as folks realize that the economy sucks - and that the combined lie that productivity is way up and the economy is growing is the only way to explain a no jobs "healthy" economy.

American's will not want to be told that the honest government of Clinton has been replaced by the lies and spin of Bush - but they will feel it and react - we just have to keep pointing out the jobs numbers.

We just hit a 100 dead in Afghanistan, and this week we will pass 500 dead in Iraq - if the media does nor close down on this - the way they are trying to close down O'Niel's book revalations - the people will know - day by day - why they want a new president.
