Meat raises lung cancer risk, too, study finds
Source: Reuters)

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - People who eat a lot of red meat and processed meats have a higher risk of several types of cancer, including lung cancer and colorectal cancer, U.S. researchers reported on Monday.

The researchers studied 500,000 people aged 50 to 71 who took part in a diet and health study done in conjunction with the AARP, formerly the American Association for Retired Persons.

After eight years, 53,396 cases of cancer were diagnosed.

"Statistically significant elevated risks (ranging from 20 percent to 60 percent) were evident for esophageal, colorectal, liver, and lung cancer, comparing individuals in the highest with those in the lowest quintile of red meat intake," the researchers wrote.

1. Is there any such thing as a food that is 100% good for you?
Any food out there that will not earn the rebuke of the food police?

17. GM potatoes said to increase autoimmune disease in a study
done in the UK about 6 plus years ago. The researcher was fired even though scientists of repute from the entire world wrote complaints about the firing and vouched for the research. We are being harmed by the food today.

16. Fruits, vegetables, nuts and whole grains
are what humans are best suited to consuming.

I eat too much fat and sugar, so preaching to others would be hypocritical. I do however, when the opportunities arise, learn what I can about the nutritional values of a variety of foods, particularly, those which I consume regularly. I suppose some might consider me obsessive, as I read the nutritional tables of everything I eat. I have a website bookmarked, which lists the nutritional values of the foods of every major restaurant chain in the US <http://www.dietfacts.com/fastfood.asp>, so when I swing through Taco Bell on my way to work, I know exactly how much protein, fiber, saturated fat and total calories I am consuming. If, when engaging in conversation with others, the topic of nutrition is broached, I will share the information I have absorbed.

I like to learn about both the benefits and the risks associated with foods that humans consume, even though I don't always eat what I know is best. Does learning and discussing make we a member of the "food police"?

13. Sitting out here on the plains in the middle of an ice castle
I just put some of my own home raised, steroid and antibiotic free, beef in a nice marinade for my delicious oven stew tomorrow night. If I eat beef everyday and die at 60 from the effects I will have enjoyed every day....what more can a guy ask for?
