Mom: 'Carol Sue Would Be Alive Today' If Not for Huckabee

A Missouri mother says she will do "whatever it takes" to stop former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee from becoming president, because he freed the man who went on to rape and murder her daughter, Carol Sue Shields (pictured).

"I can't imagine anybody wanting somebody like that running the country," Lois Davidson of Adrian, Mo., told the Blotter on ABCNews.com.

Wayne Dumond was initially sentenced to life plus 25 years for raping a 17-year-old Arkansas high school cheerleader. In 1999, a parole board voted to free Dumond, after then-Gov. Mike Huckabee announced his desire to see him released.

A former parole board member tells ABC News that Huckabee exerted strong pressure on the board to release Dumond.

finger prints on it to avoid any potential political fall out. You have several board members saying that Huckabee pressured them to release Dumond in a closed door meeting - Huckabee says he didn't. Other information, including the meeting with the victim and her family says that Huckabee was determined to release Dumond and that he did not listen to their pleas and in fact knew little about the case but was relying on the word of political enemies of Bill Clinton that Dumond had been railroaded by Clinton - for which there is no evidence and in fact there is contrary evidence. Most damning perhaps is that Huckabee told the family that there was DNA evidence exonerating Dumond - an outright falsehood and Huckabee could easily have determined that by asking to see the case files which he was entitled to do as governor considering action on commutation or pardon. Man this absolutely reeks of misconduct on Huckabee's part and it is hard to see how he glosses over this one as the campaign heats up. I think it finishes him as a viable candidate.

Huckabee was influenced by a Baptist minister who was working to get Dumond released. Apparently Dumond must have 'found god' and did a con job on the church.
Huckabee used very poor judgement instead of looking at the facts. Not to be trusted obviously.

getting all possible "benefit of the doubt". And although I loathed (and feared) Huckabee's theocratic theology, he still came across as a basically "decent guy" to me. But in light of this and other threads on DU, I'm finding god reason to change my mind on both points.
