Source: Houston Chronicle

AUSTIN — State Rep. Rick Noriega, of Houston, is set to officially file this morning as a Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate.

If Noriega wins the nomination, he will take on incumbent Republican U.S. Sen. John Cornyn.

Noriega's only announced primary opponent so far is Corpus Christi school teacher Ray McMurrey.

"Mr. Noriega has a distinguished career and I respect his candidacy," McMurrey said in a statement.

4. Good luck - Cornyn needs to go.
I can just see the slime Republicans making a smear out of his last name though, and there will be those that will fall for it.

5. This is a long awaited dream come true.
In 2004, several of us we mulling the idea of asking Rick to run against Kay Bailey Hutchison in 2006 and planned to caucus at the Texas State Convention to formulate our plans. Instead, we were numbed by the fact that just a week or so before the convention, Rick was deployed to Afghanistan.

Thank God, he came home safe and sound 15 months later, just in time to be named "incident commander" at the GRB center for Katrina evacuees, nd now, he's running against John Cornyn.

Please everyone, visit www.ricknoriega.com and show him how much we all love and appreciate his dedication. If you can donate and/or volunteer, great. If not, just leave him a thank you. I know Rick and believe me, he's the kind of guy who is very sincerely moved by any and all encouragement.

6. Does anybody like this idea?
Senator Noriega.
Congressman Hussein.
Senator Putin.
There's got to be people in the US who have names of other despots besides that of Bush.
Congressman Castro from Florida
How ironic that would be.

8. Poppy Bush's hometown isn't Houston.
In fact, you may recall that his address was a Houston hotel when he ran for president the first time. He didn't own a house there until after he was elected. He's a New Englander, through and through! :)

9. If Clinton hadn't carried Maine in 1992 Poppy'd probably be in Kinnebunkport
instead of Houston.
